    NVIDIA Teases Something "Super"

A linux-powered, Steam machine-esque peseudo-console? Ya know, "super" as in contrast to "windows" (keyboard button)? (Hey, at least I tried!)

ARM Revokes Huawei's Chip IP Licence

Isn't everyone? Why should I -and practically half the world- as a third party, count this against the CPC alone? We could play this whatabout game forever, and I'm pretty sure neither of us would have shortage of cases and incidents to back their arguments with. There are no rules. At least...

ARM Revokes Huawei's Chip IP Licence

Who said anything about domination? We should avoid this false dilemma. I'm hoping for the threat to monopolies that is "alternatives." But if we entertained, for the sake of argument, the idea of the CPC helming things, for Africans at least, the differences are either insignificant or giving...

Microsoft Advocates for Tighter Governmental Regulation of the Tech Sector With "Strong Enforcement Provisions"

ARM Revokes Huawei's Chip IP Licence

It's refreshing to see that the UK's still following the Blair era whoring to the US. </s> On a more serious note, I really hope Huawei/China start fighting this with all the -economical- teeth and claws they have. Not really a fan of this de facto monopoly the US has on the tech world, and...

U.S. Tech Industry, Including Google, Microsoft, Intel, and Qualcomm, Ban Huawei

The "operating system" is not the issue here, never was. Huawei would be adding too much cost if it went for its own OS, when a free(!) one is available and maintained by some of the brightest minds the industry has. Exporting their homegrown, Gapps-replacement services is probably the safest...

Which Camera apps do you use?

Stock camera, but I keep Open Camera installed and configured for when I'm looking to take shots that I don't want to be found easily when the phone is searched... For general point-and-shoot photography, I really don't see a need to have something other than Google's cam. But of course, OEMs...

Is it a bad habit to keep hibernating PC instead of shutting it down ?

Afaik, hibernation is an ACPI state, not something Microsoft exclusively controls to dictate whether the concept is desktop thing or a laptop thing. Sure, laptops see more practical uses for it, but that doesn't really prevent anyone with supported desktop hardware -which is practically all...

Is it a bad habit to keep hibernating PC instead of shutting it down ?

Well, technically speaking a lot do load on "startup," unless of course you're not having any software (besides the OS itself) running when you hibernate, which imo defeats the purpose of hibernation. :| I personally use hybrid sleep. Shutdowns are only for maintenance stuff (updates, hardware...

Apple Reports Second Quarter Results: Services Revenues Reach $11.5 Billion

Epic's Tim Sweeney Says They'd Stop Hunting for Exclusives if Steam Matched Epic Games Store in Comission Rates

The new UT does and the rest came before the EGS was a thing, but that wasn't my point. My point wasn't about which platforms those titles were published on, my point was that Epic has a considerably high brand recognition and are a well-known, major player in the video games industry. Even...

Epic's Tim Sweeney Says They'd Stop Hunting for Exclusives if Steam Matched Epic Games Store in Comission Rates

As much as I like Sweeny and Epic, this over-the-top idealism is provoking my cynisim. Still, if the major stakeholders in this fiasco, the developers, seem to be on Epic's side, even with all the features that make Steam a "significantly better platform" (c'mon now, do achievments and other...

Digital Storm and TechPowerUp Present Lynx Gaming Desktop Giveaway

So is this merely a matter of shipping or does the participant HAVE to be, officially, a US/CA citizen? I mean, is it possible for a non US/CA resident to participate and have it shipped to a north American address (e.g. a relative's)?

ASUS Updates Security Certificates of Motherboards, Graphics Cards, Mini PCs, Workstations and Servers

I wonder if I'll ever read a marketing statement that isn't utter bs. And heck, isn't this technically a lie? Supply chain attack means the official repos ARE the the source of malicious code! And if you were responcible enough to plug the hole (which is more that can be said than many other...

What's up With Crytek's Raytracing Demo? Reflections don't Match

As long as it "traces" a representative light ray, solving the BRDF as it refracts/reflects off objects, it's ray-tracing. If it's fast enough to be considered instantanious, then it's "realtime ray-tracing." It isn't required for the said "objects" to be the exact ones seen in viewport (or in...

    Game suggestions (for work laptop)

I've only played Shadowrun HongKong tbh, but it was a decent game. It's shorter than XCOM from what I recall, but being a spin-off a tabletop, it invests more on the story and narrative. Another good option for an RTS with little micromanagement is Company of Heroes.

    Game suggestions (for work laptop)

Shadworun series (the non tabletop games)? Also, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 and its expansion, if you hadn't raised a pitchfork at it when it was released. Might need you to go conservative on the settings though. Tiberium Wars is a lighter option.

Are digital stores bad for launching games at full price?

+10! A single AAA (and sometimes even those of lesser budget) games has more bits in it than all SNES games combined. What was a gamedev's worst nightmare back then, fitting enough spritesheets in a coupla MBs of ROM? I'll bet the poor fellow who's making sure every UV is neatly mapped in every...
