    Computer making me mad....

If you have a separate sound card you should definitely disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.

Setting up a small business network

Sorry, I edited my last post because you replied again after I posted it. So, we need a gigabit switch and the F series isn't worth saving money on. My question was more on the difference between ProSafe and SmartSwitches, but now that I understand that I think we're going to go with the...

Setting up a small business network

Hey, thanks. I'm here at work now trying to piece things together. Here's a quick question, how does this switch look?http://www.netgear.com/Products/Switches/AdvancedSmartSwitches/FS728TS.aspx What's the main difference between the ProSafe series and SmartSwitches?

Setting up a small business network

Hey, thanks for the reply and private message. I'm off to the place today to see how things go. I'm going to try my best to be knowledgeable in the areas I know and to be as helpful as possible with the things I'm not. Just to make sure I understood you right in the message, (I'll reply to it...

    Post your SpeedTest results!

AT&T DSL. The line goes anywhere from 5-6 MBs. Tonight it's a bit on the low end. I really envy you people with high end connections, but here in my town this is the fastest Internet connection possible - period. No cable, no fiber, etc.

Setting up a small business network

What SonicWall firewall is the best one? The one suggested above is out of our price range. I'm thinking I should keep the firewall under $200. There's only one at that price. Is it decent? Keep in mind this is a small network (to you guys lol) so I'm not sure I need a $500 firewall...

    Setting up a home network.

DrPepper, you can use simple file sharing in Vista similiar as to in XP and I'm pretty sure you won't need a username or password. I'm not 100% sure on this as I run XP here, but I looked up a few guides online. Does this help at all? http://www.home-network-help.com/simple-file-sharing.html...

Setting up a small business network

Alright, I think I'll go with the SonicWall. They seem to have a few varieties available. Is the one you recommend their best product? I'll do some review searching of my own here in a bit. The more I hear about terminals, the more I think they're complete overkill for what it is he needs...

Setting up a small business network

Thanks for the thought-out reply and encouraging words. I certainly can Google and I've been doing quite a bit of it over the last few days! Right now the network is currently using a cheap Linksys WRT54G and a large number of the users are on wireless. My first and most important goal...

Setting up a small business network

Thanks for the reply. So I guess I'll be getting a separate firewall. I run the switch into that before going out, right? Would make sense to me that way. What benefits do I gain by using a managed switch? Isn't an unmanaged switch essentially just a dumb box with no way of me controlling it...

Setting up a small business network

Okay, do you have a specific Netgear switch that you recommend? I've looked more into the Dell and I no longer really like what I hear in various reviews so scratch that idea. Can you elaborate please on the needs of the network's bandwidth and the connections to the server? I've never done...

Setting up a small business network

Hello everyone, been a while since I've posted here, but I have a question I'm hoping I can get some help with. I have recently been giving a chance to work for small local company setting up and managing their network of approximately fifteen computers. Now, I have setup small networks before...

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" and yet no cause

It was indeed the boot order. Thanks, everyone. I'm not sure why it got switched to begin with but all seems fine now.

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" and yet no cause

Yeah, the OS is Windows XP with SP3 and I can hear the drives running. I have some good news though. I unplugged my second hard disk this morning before work and tried quickly to test the computer. It booted up fine to the Windows login screen so I think those of you who suggested the boot...

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" and yet no cause

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm new, but I'm no noob. No, I'm just leaving the CMOS clearing overnight. My girlfriend pulled me away and told me to let it go until tomorrow. After hours working on my buddy's machine and this happening I was angry and am going to deal with it tomorrow...

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" and yet no cause

Hello everyone. I'm new here, but I troll the forums sometimes. :) I'm having a really frustrating problem tonight and I see no cause or solution. Long story short, I swapped out my perfectly working with no-issues for a year now PSU out into my buddy's new build to see if he had a faulty PSU...
