    A lasting gaming laptop rig?

It seems the 11" Acer I have (in front of me) is falling apart :nutkick::cry: and I sort of wanted a new one anyway (for gaming and probably taking class notes @ school) Budget: ~1000 American Dollars Resolution: Up to HD (if it doesn't make the system get very hot) Games /...

    Post your Speedtest.net Speeds!

No! Give it to Texas. God our speeds are pathetic. Feels like were still on 56k (albeit without the dailup sounds).

    HDD & SSD prices go down the hole . . . .!

It is a bit odd to me that 512 GB SSD price right now are about that much in cost (to us) but a 1 TB SSD is nearly 3K. I seem to recall them (preflood?) being about 1 thousand. How strange that double the amount of space is like 6 times the cost. Sheesh.

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

I don't have any need to do video (or even) picture editing or modeling - no CAD that bit is from a different forum from one of the dozen other threads I've posted on the net about what I should get. I probably will be running folding@home plenty though.

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

I already have Windows Home Premium 32 & 64 Bit discs. For now I think I'm temporarily getting rid of my 240 GB SSD and instead using that to get the 680. SSD will come down in price eventually. I can first see if the games have gigantic loading times on the 2 TB HDD. Radeon H9 7970 or 680? No...

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

Specifications Manufacturer G.Skill Model F3-14900CL8D-8GBXM Type 240-pin DIMM Speed DDR3-1866 Size 8GB (2 x 4GB) CAS 8 Voltage 1.5V Heat Spreader Yes ECC No Buffered No Price/GB $9.37 Price: 74.99 8 GB for $75 seems too much compared to what 16GB can cost.

A thread I posted was removed

No no no. I was saying I was downloading something (not asking) and asking why one system got good download while the other got good upload.

A thread I posted was removed

I posted a question thread in Network/Security forum a hour ago, might I inquire as to why it was deleted? I was wondering (in the thread) why and how competing for bandwidth would make one system have good download speed and the other system have good upload. :wtf:

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

That motherboard (biostar) is compatible with the RAM I had and with 16 GB that raises how end cost nearly 35 dollars. O well. I presume 'faster' RAM (a high # 1866 vs 1600 vs 1300) is better . . . .

God damn US. Paying more for far less. Home internet connection.

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

I at one time did have a gigabyte selected that was $200 (or so) but it has regular old BIOS (no GUI) - I "threw" that part out and got what you see in the first post. I think I specifically got it because of the UEFI (which I do want) and because of the reviews seemed positive and it was a lot...

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

I hope the rebates work when I buy or that the prices just go down 30 - 45% (doubtful). Right now with the rebates it does go about 10 below what I'd like to pay at most. When does Ivy bridge fully come out? 20 something of this month?

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

I did find a OCZ Agility 3 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk for the same price as the 90 GB I have in my first post. Also odd that since yesterday the end price of the entire system went down about $5. When I do get a new monitor (like the one monitor that's been suggested) I could get a different...

    HDD & SSD prices go down the hole . . . .!

I doubt anyone of us can give a correct answer but when is it expected that Hard Disk Drives and Solid State Drives to go down in price - because of the flood last year. And by how much do you think? One third (1/3)?

    1 vs 2 vs 4 vs 8 vs 16 vs 32 vs 64 vs 128 bit (OS)

    Just a somewhat of a nonsensical fun thread. A collection of how much each bit (see title) OS can hold. 1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16 - 32 - 2^32 - 4 billion or 4,294,967,295 bytes - 4 GB 64 - 2^64 - 18 quintillion* or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 :twitch: :respect: 128 - * -...

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

A week ago I had a 256 GB SSD for the OS and other files but if I have to reinstall the OS - or it goes bottom up - than there goes the OS and the files. As for a steam relocation app: Steam Mover. Guess I could get a HDD for solely just steam games.

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

Actually the 2nd SSD is for items that would normally take long loading times on a HDD - I'd think some more recent games - Wolfenstein, LA Noire, Skyrim, etc would have longish loading times on a traditional HDD. The 2 TB is for other games and probably ~ 20 GB of music. I may use about 100 GB...

A good long lasting gaming and multipurpose rig?

This seem like a decent rig to play most current and forthcoming PC games? . . . . Budget - Within about $1500 (American) Resolution - At first 1680 x 1050 - Eventually HD (and a dual monitor setup) Games / Settings Desired: Everything from DOS era on, yes you read that correctly. Most...
