    What makes EVE online tick.

For any that are interested, came across this blog on the upgrade of Eve online's servers. Could do quite nicely for crunching actually! :D http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=769&sp_rid=MzM2MjgyOTg1MQS2&sp_mid=35411181

    Taking photos of your pc

(really not sure where to post this thread so if a moderator could please move if needed) Seeing as there has been alot of guys battling with getting decent pics of their rigs, I thought I'd try out some different ideas to show how they come out. My camera is a Nikon D5000, with a 50mm F1.4...

    AMD Opteron 6100 Review

Didn't know these chips existed, so this was a surprise. My apologies if there is already a similar thread. http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/processors/356845/amd-opteron-6100

    Adhoc fan testing

Well, I find myself having a few different fans in my hands right now, and while not having suitable scientific equipment or facilities to do proper testing, I think I've found a simple way to compare them. I take one fan, and connect it to a multimeter. Then place the test fan right up...

    Newbie and permissions

Hey guys. Just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old pc. Extremely painless, and a good experience for my 1st foray. Just 1 issue. I need to install files for skype into a root folder, but it says I don't have the right permissions. I did set up the account as admin. Any advice?

Help! Win 7 and old chipset.

I'm trying to help out a friend and have loaded win 7 on their pc. But as it's a skt 939 board with the nForce4 chipset, the drivers are not compatable. Specifically for the audio chipset and ethernet. What solutions can you guys suggest? And no, can't reinstall xp as it was completely...

    Interesting option for folding

Seems according to this review both cores will fold on the EVGA GTX275 co-op. http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=460&Itemid=72

    P55 CPU socket

Hey guys. I keep reading about good and bad CPU sockets on P55 mbs. I know the Foxconn ones are not good, but how does one find out which is used on a mb? Especially as we tend to order online, where you don't get to play with the hardware.

    Potential purchase advice

Just a quick one. As Ion is away, and I can't get his PPD estimator to work, (yes, even with the other download listed.) I'm wanting to know if going to an AMD 620 would be a worthwhile upgrade from my e6550. (the one in my sig) I know I could get a Q for less money, but not sure about...

    [WTB] [RSA] Skt 939 Mb.

I'm looking for a reasonable socket 939 motherboard, as I have a opty 165 that needs a new home. Hopefully something with some o/c ability. I know shipping will be pricey to South Africa, but let's see if someone can offer me a worthwhile deal.

    Windows 7 DSP vs. Retail

Ok. After being burnt with buying a DSP version of Vista, I'm wondering if anyone knows if the DSP version of 7 is also locked to one specific mb. My thanks in advance for your feedback.

    OS for HTPC

I'm looking at getting a HTPC up and running soon, and as far as OS goes, there seems to be Vista and Linux. How viable is Linux for a HTPC, where blu ray playback would be required, as well as running a TV tuner card in PVR mode. Also I'd be looking to use it as a music server as well.

    Stackable radiator

Just found this: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8743/ex-rad-149/Swiftech_MCR320_Quiet_Power_Stackable_Triple_120mm_Radiator_-_Black_MCR320-QP-Stack.html An interesting idea for upgrading maybe.

    User feedback on Scythe Musashi.

I've just replaced the Zalman VF-900 on my Sapphire HD4850 Toxic with a Scythe Musashi cooler. Installation had a few hiccups, as the fins on the heatsink bend very easily. Even with the 12mm or so clearance, I still had to replace the heatsink on the VRMs etc, and used the copper shim to lift...

    Antec 900 updated.

I can't find anything on Antec's site, but found this: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8507/cst-855/Antec_Nine_Hundred_Two_Mid-Tower_Gaming_Case.html#blank A 900 updated to the same features as the 1200 by the looks of things. Good move methinks.

    On my list for Santa

I really can't afford 1 now, but this makes Antec's skeleton look cheap and boring. http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/miba101clmoc.html Wonder if Santa is listening right now.:p

    Really bizarre issue.

Right, I'm stumped. I was putting together an office pc for someone using new old parts to hand. (everything besides the case and psu are new) Basically AMD skt 939 3500, Asrock mb, 2 x 512mb DDR400, 7300GT AGP gfx, Seagate 250g, etc. Windows XP home installed as normal, as did drivers...

A new take on recycling old computers

I love these types of mods: http://www.custompc.co.uk/news/605301/sinclair-zx81-modded-into-full-pc.html Scarey thing is I'm old enough to remember playing games on a Sinclair.

    What is this card for?

Just saw this card listed by one of my local e-tailers, and I'm curious what you would use it for. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=517&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=53&LanID=9 It takes a skt 939 cpu, and 2 sticks of ram. Sounds intriguing.
