    Maps for tracking COVID-19

The woman and the baby behind her are both like: WTF?

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

Do you maybe know who gets tested in the US? Everyone that has symptoms or only those with severe symptoms and higher age?

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

I heard that as well. A thing to consider is also that you can test a sick (without symptoms) person, get a negative result, but the same person can be positive the next day - these are very hard to track down and catch. My country is doing around 1000 tests per day since beginning of first...

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

This. The only way to catch it early on is: test, test, test as much as possible. If you see increasing numbers it's time to shut down. You still won't catch everyone with the testing, and one of our infectologists said that to get the approximate number of real infections is to multiply the...

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

Number of deaths per infected is a bit tricky - it depends on the testing method used. In my country, only those with more severe symptoms, elderly and those which potentially can have a severe case are tested. If you have mild symptoms, they won't test you and you are ordered to isolate and...

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

Italy has a population of approximately 60m, if everyone got infected and if we apply the ~9% death rate we saw on the previous page...well you can do the math, after all you're a scientist.

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

The result would be millions and millions of dead - that to me is not interesting. This video is from one hospital in Italy....just for you, listen at 1:30

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

Of course they do, we don't have lockdowns for the flu so the only real comparison with the flu numbers would be to cancel all the lockdowns and see what happens. The effects of flu compared to the coronavirus are different - you are much more likely to sustain permanent damage on your organs...

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

I would just like to add something here. The medical system in Italy as a country was no overwhelmed, it was actually overwhelmed in few cities which got hit hard. Now imagine if the system got hit nation-wide like most people think it did, the number of deaths would be staggering...

    Maps for tracking COVID-19

My observation is that the infected/deaths ratio is very low at the beginning - because like doctors that work with these patients say that it takes some time for the severe symptoms to develop. So yes you might see a huge increase in infected numbers but low numbers of deaths - but after a week...

Computex 2020 Postponed due to COVID-19 Outbreak

So all you come up with is wear a mask and wash your hands? From all of your replies I would think you knew better. IF the Chinese managed to stop the spreading they did it with a lock-down and it worked.

Computex 2020 Postponed due to COVID-19 Outbreak

It barely spread it's wings, and without the lockdowns it would overtake the flu death rate like it's nothing. And stop comparing it to the flu it's not even close to being the same. However I do agree that panicking and over-reacting is idiotic and get's you nowhere. But ignoring the warnings...

Computex 2020 Postponed due to COVID-19 Outbreak

It's damn sure better than letting it rip through everyone and ending up with a population which has a maximum age of 50. That is narrow-minded, selfish thinking. And you don't have to lock down everything, if people wouldn't be so stupid and followed a few simple instructions you don't require...

Computex 2020 Postponed due to COVID-19 Outbreak

I know that they are more exposed, but most people think like you - it will be over soon So they don't follow the restrictions since they are young and thereby safe. And just because it does not kill young people it does not mean they don't have severe problems and need to be in the hospital...

Computex 2020 Postponed due to COVID-19 Outbreak

People should really stop spreading this BS, it's not special - the shutdown actions came way too late and people did not respect them at the beginning! The same is currently happening in Spain. And stop bringing the common flu into this - covid is NOTHING like the flu, stop spreading...

Computex 2020 Postponed due to COVID-19 Outbreak

I hope this was sarcasm from your side, the outbreak barely started and due to most countries having huge delays in restrictions I'm afraid many more will die or get infected. And people should STOP looking at the death rate alone - the amount of people that require medical assistance is huge...

Processor choice for well equipped quad channel memory system... generational improvements worth it?

For the X79 platform look at Xeon 1680/1650 V2, they are unlocked and you have access to all of the CPU cache and they usually clock better than desktop parts - however they don't have dual CPU support. For X99 you can also look at Xeon 1680 V3 - it is unlocked but much more expensive so I would...

CORSAIR Releases Updated CORSAIR ONE PRO i200 Compact Workstation-Class PC

14 cores...I could even call that sub-standard for a "powerful workstation", also no option for ECC RAM. Of course it's all workload dependent, but you should get better software support with Quadros (better drivers). And if you use software which does benefit from Quadros/FirePro they stomp...

Worth it upgrading to i9 9900K?

For gaming - get a better GPU, for everything else you can just get an AMD CPU with more cores or wait for 4000 series.

    ThinkPad P53 I9 9880H won't go over 40x / 3.99ghz

No way you will get max turbo on all 8 cores. The maximum turbo value is for single core only, the more cores that are used the lower the frequency. These CPUs are severely power and thermal limited. Link to a review with a 6 core model but the same issue applies...

The "US Government" should first stop itself.

    Laptop For 3D Modeling

Did you look at any mobile workstations? However those are not thin and light but you do get a proper GPU (Quadro/FirePro) for CAD if you would have any benefit from that. I would recommend quad core as a minimum, pro GPU also does wonders to speed.

What are you guys using to drive 250ohm headsets?

Used schiit asgard 2 for quite some time to drive my HD600. But then I bought a 30 year old Sony 630ESD integrated amp - from that day on I never again used the asgard and sold it. Yes some could say placebo, but the difference was so huge that even I just could not believe it. So maybe check...
