AMD A10-5800K and A8-5600K APUs for Socket FM2

Thanks fellas! the uATX board I purchased only has one pcie slot anyway so no hope for crossfire with discrete cards. All told cost was $180ish for 5800k, a75 chipset asrock mobo and 8gb 1600mhz ram after cashback. Not too shabby!

AMD A10-5800K and A8-5600K APUs for Socket FM2

Okay, so just to be clear - when you said CrossfireX you meant crossfiring 2 discrete video cards? And by dual graphics - "crossfire" with apu & one discrete card = old hybrid graphics? I just purchased an a75 board from newegg yesterday, item already shipped but I read your article after...

AMD A10-5800K and A8-5600K APUs for Socket FM2

Dave, I have a question about this article now. On page 2 you suggest that only the A85X can utilize crossfire. However it seems that the A75 can also crossfire at least in the FM1 chipsets. Can you clarify this in the article? Did amd disable crossfire on D3 hudson and only allow it on the a85x?

AMD A10-5800K and A8-5600K APUs for Socket FM2

I just purchased a 5800k & an asrock uATX board and found this thread by googling overclocking results of the igpu. If 1600 3dmarks can be achieved with it at stock i'm hoping to get 2000 hitting 1000mhz core or 1050, etc. I don't have the board but we shall see. The big advantage here though...

Apple ordered to run Samsung 'did not copy iPad' adverts

Grey area. Apple invented the tablet as we know it. Did samsung copy that? Yes. But what really is happening here is a debate as to whether GM copied ford when it created its own version of a 'car'. Most people agree that GM copied the idea, made it its own and slapped GM on it. Is that...

Is there anyone left on this forum who is actually helpful?

    7770 and underclocking video memory

Unless you have to pay an electric bill. Which in my case, I do. Underclocking to 300mhz would probably save 15W.

    7770 and underclocking video memory

Just got a 7770 and i'm trying to underclock the video memory while folding. Can't figure out how. MSI afterburnder doesn't work, trixx doesn't work, barelyclocked doesn't work. This is my first intro to the 7000 series. Anyone have any thoughts on how to underclock it in windows to 300mhz...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

I just wanted to bump this thread and say that the only solution I found was to use my own 6950 bios and unlock the shaders with w1zzard's php script. Its not 6970 mind you, but at 1.1v it does do 900mhz/1375 stable. I'll have to just wait to see if/when asus releases a new bios to fix this...

    Its a sad day, AMD

Who buy's their video card locally? really? Best buy or fry's? lol cmon man. And if it weren't for Nvidia, amd would still be charging $700 for the 7970. Ridiculous. You know its true. The availability of the 7970 is likely tied DIRECTLY to it being overpriced relative to the 680gtx. Today's...

    Its a sad day, AMD

What the hell, I had no idea AMD users and fan boys were so full of rage! Jeesh! No matter how you spin it, this is sad for AMD. Completely owned by nvidia.

    Its a sad day, AMD

I think last summer kinda proved otherwise. 5000 series cards were unavailable for months and 5970s were going for $700 to $800 on ebay. On top of that 6950s and 6970s while available were somewhat scarce. Reference cards were nearly impossible to find by end of June. Hey i'm an amd fan myself...

    Its a sad day, AMD

Its a sad day, AMD. Or: When AMD fanboys ATTACK!!!!!! When the gtx690 gets released a month after the gtx680 and AMD can't release the 7990 4 months after the 7970... its a sad sad day. :ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::cry...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

I've thought about going ahead and giving that a try. However with the imminent release of ivy bridge i'm guessing there will be another asus bios released pretty soon here. In the mean time 5 to 10% drop from 6970s to 6950s isn't that big a deal for me. Plus i am somewhat interested to see if a...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

The guy PMed me more about it. Supposedly some of the windows hacks are at the bios level and so Asus put in some kind of block to disallow people from bios hacking to get windows to register genuine. I'm just relaying what he told me. I have genuine copies of windows, so iv'e never used a...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

I posted this same message over on OCN and finally someone replied telling me ASUS did this on purpose to stop "cheaters" with flashed 6950s. He also mentioned something about non-genuine windows being in there too. I find this to be quite dubious as what % of people have flashed 6970s? Maybe...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

Really? I've had asus mobos for at least 10 years and they have been completely trouble free in all those years. Knock on wood I guess, but the new EUFI bios seems to not be polished in terms of upgrading. Can't go back to previous bios? Who the hell ever heard of that before. This is a...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

The interesting part of this is the reports are that the bios doesn't work with normal 6970s. I cannot confirm that but googling shows people with 6970s having same problem. Whether they have unlocked cards too is unknown. At this point i'll just make do with 6950s and wait for the next bios...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

Oh also, I called Asus support again and they are telling me its $24 for them to ship me a new bios chip with the old bios on it. Ridiculous. My other option is to RMA my board and have them put in the old bios chip themselves and then ship it out to me on their dime. Fools.

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

It does seem like the guy had a problem with 3101 similar to my own on 3202. Here is the crazy part: 3202 was posted February 24, almost 2 months ago. WTF Asus. I'm concluding here that Asus has really just FUBARed on this bios. And it has been 2 months since! :banghead: I'm genuinely...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

IIRC the 6970 bios i'm using is the genuine 6970 bios. I have reference cards so I was able to do it. Complete with 1.17v and everything. So in theory I should have a bone stock 6970 bios. I don't remember exactly what bios I have though. I may have just modded the shaders but I dont recall...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

If I flip the bios switch on my video cards back to factory, that is, the MSI 6950, I can boot into windows no problem and I get video during strap, etc. If I flip the bios switch on my video cards to the 6970 bios I flashed last June (and have been running full bore since with no problems at...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

I appreciate the link. I may have to try that method. I may have to also try a new video bios for my MSI 6950s that is compatible somehow with this new mobo bios. As for clearing the CMOS, yea, I did that. I have also reflashed the motherboard bios with the same version (3202) multiple...

AMD 6970 flash incompatible with new Asus motherboard bios

Hey TPU! Last summer I bought 2 MSI 6950s which I flashed to 6970s. Took about 10 mins to do both cards. In November I bought a new mobo/cpu, an Asus P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 and an i5-2500k. Today I updated the bios to 3202 and upon reboot got no video. Long story short, when I flip the video...
