PCIe x16 switching to x8 even if no 2nd GPU connected?

Hi, i have a tiny question on PCIe lanes. My Mobo has 2 PCIe x16 slots. The manual says that both of these ports operare in x16 modes, but if two gpus are connected they are scaled down to 8x modes. However, it seems that the lanes are scaled down if ANYTHING is connected to the 2nd PCI...

Hitachi XL2000 2TB external drive any good for 100€?

Hi all, a big electronics chain is having a Hitachi XL2000 2TB external harddrive on sale for 100€. This price looks pretty impressive for that capacity, but i am afraid there is catch somewhere. For comparison, the cheapest 2TB drive i could find is a WD Green for 140 €. (a green drive would...

    Dead motherboard?

Well i am not... but i know that replacing it with an old PCI GeforceFX card did not help, so i guess the card is ok. Anyway how could a damaged gfx card cause ram test errors. I did some further tryouts and i have realised that the ram module which is showing some signs of life works only in...

    Dead motherboard?

yes, indeed my computer acts just like it had a fried ram, but i am still reluctant to think that the ram is the problem: - before i started to mess around with the external hdd everything was working fine - in my experience ram dies very rarely. it is either dead on arrival or works for ages...

Hi, i need a home printer to print ad-hoc stuff, letters, documents for reading etc. A black and white laser printer would be my choice. I dont need anything special (altough a network interface would come in handy), and the printer load is also expected to be rather low. Now i have a good...

Loading a webpage causes choppy sound playback

Increasing the buffer didnt help, but there is one more very weird behavior i have forgot to mention (as i am mostly restarting the computer before this occurs): leaving the computer on for an extended time (over 10 hours) causes that both Firefox and IE stop loading pages. To matter if i type...
