AMD Ryzen 3000 and Older Zen Chips Don't Support SAM Due to Hardware Limitation, Intel Chips Since Haswell Support it

It's not about I/O or PCIe controller, it's a CPU instruction, an ISA extension of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit_manipulation_instruction_set. In ZEN2 it is apparently emulated in microcode using other instructions which is why it is too slow for any benefit here.

    Apple's M1-Based MacBook Air Benchmarked

Anandtech did some testing with the new mac mini, I think Cinebench R23 single thread is notable as you can easily compare it to x64 results:

HyperX Launches HyperX x Ducky One 2 Mini Keyboard with Black Colorway

I'm not convinced about gaming keyboards without arrow keys. Should have been One 2 SF.

    Apple's M1-Based MacBook Air Benchmarked

You mean like for example SPECint, here showing Apple's previous A14 chip powering Iphone 12? I'm very curious about Cinebench R23 results of the M1.

Raspberry Pi 400 Compact Keyboard Computer Announced for 70 USD

I don't know, the USB bus is pretty terrible for pretty much anything but peripherals. At least in RPi 4 the Ethernet is no longer on USB 2.0... The proper way to do that would be to get a SoC which natively supports SATA/USB 3.0/Ethernet/PCIe. But I guess that would increase the price by $20...

Raspberry Pi 400 Compact Keyboard Computer Announced for 70 USD

Yeah micro-HDMI on something that's gonna be plugged and unplugged often... bad idea. Other missed opportunities: no audio jack (I'm pretty sure there is one on RPi 4), wonky storage (SD cards get corrupted on RPi from time to time which is a pain in the ass) and not using their very own Compute...

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Gone Gold, November 17 Launch Almost a Given

I appreciate the thoughtful reply. To put it in perspective, people were asked to work six extra Saturdays on a seven+ year development cycle. I'm not saying crunch is not an issue in general, but in this case it doesn't seem particularly jarring. Besides, at the risk of sounding like a...

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Gone Gold, November 17 Launch Almost a Given

They will likely keep working on a 0-day patch up until the release. Still, I think all this reporting about crunch is overblown. People putting in extra work, and being rewarded for it? The horror.

ClockTuner for Ryzen Simplifies "Zen 2" Overclocking, Squeezes Out Double-digit Percent Performance

I tried it with my early 3600 bin. Rated bronze by the software. It's running in an ITX-case with a single 120mm AIO so I wanted to optimize for thermals. Worked pretty well: Voltage down from 1.367 to 1.225V CCX1/CCX2 down from 4100/4100Mhz to 4000/4000Mhz CB20 multi score down from 3680 to...

NVIDIA to Acquire Arm for $40 Billion, Creating World's Premier Computing Company for the Age of AI

If AMD didn't purchase ATi back then they would be gone today. Their custom SoC business (PS4, Xbox One) is what kept the company afloat in the Bulldozer days.

AMD Ryzen 5 4400G Desktop "Renoir" 6-core APU Put Through 3DMark11

Can it play Witcher 3 (which is now a 5y old game) at 1080p/high? Probably once again not. We won't see decent APU performance before DDR5.

Intel Processors Hit with LVI Security Vulnerabilities, Mitigation Hits Performance Hard

That's not really true. You can just boot with mitigations=off switch as per kernel-parameters Nice advertisement. Hint: see who wrote the "article", what is his affiliation, and who publishes the "journal".

Intel Processors Hit with LVI Security Vulnerabilities, Mitigation Hits Performance Hard

It is now in the toolkit of malware writers so why wouldn't they use it. And trying to shift the blame on researchers is ridiculous, all of these attacks stem from a single decision Intel made about deferring access checks in speculation to chase cheap performance gains and now they are getting...

BIOSTAR Launches the New Mini-ITX X470NH Motherboard

I think it's fine? If you are doing HTPC you are probably connecting your TV over HDMI anyway (and then passthrough audio to an audio receiver). People who buy those will just plop in a 65W APU with a Noctua fan and never overlock it.

Valve Officially Launches the Valve Index VR HMD, Full Kit Preorder Up for $999

I think the problems regarding adoption of VR are much simpler: 1. Not everyone has $1000 burning a hole in their pocket, no matter how extraordinary the experience might be it's still spending a grand for entertainment (not counting the PC to drive it). 2. A lot of VR games are very arcade in...

    ASRock DeskMini A300 (Ryzen 5 2400G)

I understand that memory was supplied for this review, still would be interesting to see results with a faster/overclocked kit (e.g. 3200 CL16).

Valve Officially Launches the Valve Index VR HMD, Full Kit Preorder Up for $999

Does it come with bundled Portal 3? Seriously, what platform-defining VR games are there? It's been three years since Oculus Rift was released.

Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 10 April 2018 Update (build 1803)
