One of the worst plagues of human mind is fear for failure.
Another great is fear for the unknown.
Lots of combined fears in this thread.

CRISPR babies is the future.
Genetic manipulation of the human species - besides cultivated organisms - is the only way we will get better than this sorry state we are in now.
Now if they would find the genetic defects that allow existence of superstitions (bye bye religion) and moronic...
Got a vanilla Palit GTX1060 6GB here.
It replaced a GTX470 1280MB that started to flake out.
Had a GTX970 for a short time back in hmmm... ...whenever they were released... but got rid of it as I had no use for it. And I was not impressed by it - for a number of reasons.
Favorite GPU?
G92.
Owned a few of this type of chippery. One 8800GT 512MB I vmodded 'n' OC'ed until it was dead. Burned (!) the VRMs while torturing the poor thing. Thus came in a 8800GTS 512MB which ended up being strapped with vGPU, vMEM and OCP. Shader core reached blistering >2.4GHz until...
SSD reliablity?
Excellent.
In my experience.
I've been using SSDs for over 8 years now and both of 'em still work. First an OCZ (now retired [60GB]) and a Samsung.
For what it's worth.
I'm prolly too lazy to bother to return my card but it looks like I did not get what was advertised and what I paid for:
- 64ROPs
===> 56ROPs
- 4GB VRAM, 256bit
===> 3.5GB L1 VRAM, 224bit + ½GB L2 VRAM, 32bit
The matter of the number of ROPs is not concrete. Knowing the truth doesn't...
Ack! The fannage is annoying my ears - at idle!
I'm so pampered by ten years of watercooled silenced computing...
Luckily, the mounting hole dimensions are the same as on my retired GTX 470s so muffling the bugger is only matter of poking it silly with a screw driver.
I don't like the looks of most of those "full length" GTX970s, awful lot of wasted PCB... =P
For the record, Palit GTX970 vanilla has the same PCB as the Jetstream version.

Indeed, I spoiled myself 3 years ago when I bought my to-be-obsolete Vertex 60GB and I'm so giddy to get my mitts on the new Sammy. ¦p~ Surely, SSDs have come so far in all this time...
In case someone wonders why the motherboard is the dual Thunderbolt version; no particular reason. Got no...
I went bananas this evening and ordered some junk to toy with:
Core i7 3770K
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
2×8GB Mushkin Blackline Frostbyte DDR3L-1866 CL11-11-11-27
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i (RAID controller)
Some thoughts:
- No new GPU; I'll hold on to my dual...
I wonder if you could find more of such results? Some with non-synthetic benchies perhaps? Maybe it would be possible to find a couple slides where AMD is on top, but that's about it.
If IB-E actually launches I wonder how Ivy Bridge arch chippery can remain relevant against LGA1150 Haswell and it's Xeon counterparts that will launch before it. But ofcourse, it's another story if Haswell offers no CPU-side performance bump vs. Ivy...
Seems to me LGA2011 is heading the way of LGA1366.
I have a feeling Intel might just axe IB-E altogether and launch a new HEDT platform based on Haswell in mid-late and leave LGA2011 out dying much like they did with LGA1366, only worse as this time as users hoping to upgrade to IB-E would...
I'm itching to upgrade from my 4GBs of DDR2. Always running out of memory. Mmmm... How about a nice LGA2011 board with 8×8GB... ¦p~
:D
That clip is from a finnish skit show "Kummeli", skit's name is "Jankon Betoni" (part 1).
Absolutely. Legendary. Finnish comedy.
