Ok, we all thank the old psu for the betterment of us all. On to a new unit. I propose you get a seasonic titanium unit. They have 12 year warranties and they more than make up for their cost in 24/7 crunchers. I hope you will not find it financially difficult though.

Thanks to all for your responses. I've decided to stay with windows as the basic os, after fighting it to use linux as my desktop. Too little time to fight with the problems. Happy crunching to all.

I tried going to 90% on boinc manager cpu usage and cpu time usage, but there wasn't much difference. Even elevating the desktop (Xorg and cinammon processes) to nice -15 didn't help all that much. It is really weird.

Hi all. I have been running wcg on windows 10 for ages without anything else becoming unresponsive or slow. WCG processes just back off and give all others priority. But when I install linux (any flavor) on the same distro, everything becomes very slow as soon as wcg starts running. All wcg...

I guess a threadripper would make for many additional years............... :D! Come on AMD, don't be late now! Not to forget to mention that 1,4 mill years is the whole contribution to WCG from everyone. It is not mine!

So, one cpu year is one thread (not core as there is hyperthreading) running at 100% for 1 year! Feels nice, doesn't it? :peace:

I see in WCG stats that it has run for an equivalent of 1,445,679 years. What are those years equivalent to? Does anyone know?
