    SAS controllers and tape drives

The system worked quite well for a while and then something happened. I have no idea what and I haven't been able to correct the problem. Either Backup Exec has stopped working or there is something wrong with the hardware - either the controller or the drive. I tend to think it's not the...

    Milestones

Tru dat. We do owe a lot to our biggest contributors such as [ION] but still . . . I think we're pretty amazing too. Ooo, I think I may have strained a muscle patting myself on the back there. LOL.

    Have you got pie today?

Apparently I have another pie-hungry cruncher on my tail now. I'm barely hanging on to the top 10. But I'm not giving up. If anyone wants my slice you're going to have to work for it - and I know you will. ;)

You'll be able to brew your own LN2 pretty soon. Just wait for it condense outside into puddles. ;)

    Have you got pie today?

@thebluebumblebee - You can't get a good deal on those suckers, at least not that I've seen. There are some on ebay but at thousands of dollars per cpu. Now they're also apparently on Newegg but at list. The nice thing about the v4's is that there are always stacks of engineering and qc...

Yeah, FreeDC is, or at least used to be, a one man operation, so things can be a little flakey at times. Still you have to give Bok props for managing to run the site year after year on his own.

    Have you got pie today?

Crap, first @stinger608 rolls over me like roadkill, now you and @thebluebumblebee are filling up my rear view mirror. I've got 90 threads crunching and I can barely hang on to a slice of pie. It's not fair I tell ya. You're making me look lustfully at E5 v4 chips. Damn you all! ;)

    SAS controllers and tape drives

I think I posted a link to the wrong drive. I believe mine is an EH957A - although they appearance is identical. That's a SAS drive. It was just that the drive had the type of connectors that provided power and the card didn't so I needed to get an adapter cable.

Would it be credible if I were to use my ENTIRE Home Datacenter for WCG Research?

If the primary motivation is to help your friend then I have to agree with the sentiments already expressed here. While practical applications of the research we do on behalf of WCG can be realized in the near future, most of the work is basic research which doesn't have immediate practical...

    Crunching the Crunched Numbers

Don't push yourself. We're not going anywhere. Thank you for the update. Was just thinking about this yesterday. And thanks for all of the work you're doing on it.

I think i may be doing something wrong

The WCG servers try to balance the work units they send out based on the number available for each project and the number of people who are subscribed to each project. So for example, if in your profile you only have say Zika and SCC selected, then you'll get first priority for those projects...

    SAS controllers and tape drives

I got this HP model - https://www.amazon.com/HP-LTO-5-Ultrium-External-EH958B/dp/B009NEII4E. But I only paid about $400 and it was virtually NIB. That was a pretty good deal. I have to do the backups over the network since I couldn't install the card in the target machine's motherboard. But...

    SAS controllers and tape drives

I just ran across a link to this thread and even though it's a couple months past, I figured I would wind it up. I hate when people ask for help and then never tell you how things turned out. It turns out that the drive needed an SFF-8482 sata cable adapter. That plugged into the power supply...

    Have you got pie today?

I can see @stinger608 in my rearview. He's coming up fast. It's just a matter of time before I'm roadkill. :(

    WCG-TPU Team Captain's Christmas Giveaway! (2017 edition)

I have a 120gb SSD by Chronos that seems to work. I have 2 others that look like they're bricked but this one formatted ok. I'd have to do a low-level format and test it to make sure it works but if it does, it's yours.

You'll get my pie when you pry it from my sticky, rhubarb-stained fingers and not until!!!

I think it was because I had scripting turned off. I normally use firefux and allow scripts but I was using Chrome instead and had scripts off. Thanks.

What is the deal with having to confirm likes before they're registered. That's a serious pita.

    Crunching the Crunched Numbers

That sounds good. Thank you. I'm not sure I followed what you were saying so this might be gibberish but would it make things easier if you had 2 databases - one that would just be used for viewing information and maybe storing any information the user might be permitted to insert and one for...

    TPU's WCG/BOINC Team

That is great news. It's frustrating when the pros can't give you answers though. It might be worth getting a second opinion. I hope you feel better and this gets resolved.

    Crunching the Crunched Numbers

Thanks but I wouldn't bother with that if no one else wants to see it. It's a lot of additional work just to show something that you can more or less plot by eye just by looking at a graph.

Sounds like dvt (deep vein thrombosis). If so, sitting for long periods of time like in an airplane can cause that. Sounds like your getting this sorted though so best of luck to you.

    Crunching the Crunched Numbers

I'd like to see a least squares regression for the past 30 days for the points generated by each host as well as for total points. . . . I'm kidding of course . . . . unless . . .

    Crunching the Crunched Numbers

I didn't follow most of that but thanks for putting in the time you are on this. It's great you're optimizing everything for large datasets now while you're building the system.
