Why is RAM so $$$ now?

Check out this ram review including PUBG (you are correct on its ram hogging) and the affect of video ram on system ram. https://www.techspot.com/article/1535-how-much-ram-do-you-need-for-gaming/

What are some of your PC building pet peeves?

I'm not talking about when a RAM stick comes DOA or the fan makes a bad clicking sound but when everything works accordingly and still just seems to piss you off? Here are two of mine; CPU fan clips - I don't know why but they just scream glorified paper clip to me. Plus they suck when you...

Choosing an upgrade path - GPU or CPU+MOBO+RAM?

Your OC 2500k with a GTX 1070 offers the same performance as an OC ryzen 5 so i would hold onto it a bit longer and just get the GTX 1070 https://www.techspot.com/review/1474-ryzen-vs-older-budget-cpus/page2.html

Which CPU platform is better for me i7 8700 vs 1700 for workstation and gaming?

You may not see a difference at 60hz today but as games need more IPC down the road the difference at 140 can come down to 60hz.

    Upgrading CPU issue

I may try my cryorig on my gaming PC I've had issues in the past with gigabyte boards as well, I'll give it a try when I get home. Would a bad board flex allow the i5-6400 to work with no issue in the board though? I could be the CPU but the CPU works fine when the cooler is simply placed on...

    Upgrading CPU issue

I also thought it may be damaged PCB but I saw no visual damage on the mobo around the socket or or on the back end.

    Upgrading CPU issue

said it is brand new, I saw the box and no reason to doubt him. I've installed plenty of similar coolers and never had an issue. I also believed maybe I was doing it too hard but I would say the cooler was just hanging on to allow it to work. I've used way more pressure for cryorig, scythe...

    Upgrading CPU issue

nope and I used the same pressure as with the 6400. I tried setting the thermaltake cooler as loose as possible and let the PC run but it was really loose. Would an AIO have less pressure?

    Upgrading CPU issue

So the other day I get a call from a friend who is having an issue upgrading his i5-6400 to a brand new i5-6700. Says the PC will post with the old CPU but not the new one. So I stopped by the other day and witness the PC is clearly not booting up (mobo has power and fans are spinning). I...

Why is RAM so $$$ now?

So having some free time I ran a little test with WoW last night. I logged on and ran around the current in game major city (Dalaran) and then went and did a world raid quest; about two dozen other players phasing in and out of the raid all going full blast on powerful spells & animation. Game...

How many people still use sound cards?

I don't have the option to do it in my OP but talked to a mod and he is looking into it. My bad for not originally doing it but I did not think it would be two pages of comments  Been there done that :)

How many people still use sound cards?

I definitely notice the "full" sound especially along the mid range and a lower base frequency with more punch. I have the klipsch promedia 2.1 speaker set up and they do a good job. I also noticed the fuller range with my old creative blaster sound card as well but I found that had issues in...

How many people still use sound cards?

I know the sound card is going the way of the Dodo for PC gamers (still viable for audiophiles) but earlier in the year I purchased an Asrock Z270 mobo. Board works great outside of the audio and I got it for under $100 but I did noticed little issues during some games. For example when a...

Why is RAM so $$$ now?

Well there is also new additions to the UI (and I know from running UI add-ons it does affect RAM use), more game audio, a new player audio system ( think team speak or discord) more cut scenes, increased phasing (entire areas can completely change depending on story arc), cross realm playing...

Why is RAM so $$$ now?

I'm not sure I understand either. Are you asking how a game that has its graphic engine upgraded multiple times over the years also need more system RAM to help run the game?

Why is RAM so $$$ now?

Blizzard requires 2GB for the latest patch but recommends 4GB. From my own use I know the game can "hog" more then 4GB ram. I am in no means saying the game needs more then 4GB. As for the graphic engine this article may help explain the incremental improvements to its overhaul over the...
