Got the timings in order just doing a few tests this morning. I wouldn't say replacing them right now is the way to go but if it ends up staying like this when very high speed memory is supported I might change them. For now, as long as it's working at a minimum of 2666 with these 4 sticks it's...

    AMD Ryzen Discussion Thread.

Reporting after the 1201 bios flash. So far I had no cold boot issues. RAM problem persists however this time instead of reading only 16GB post 2666, it's doing it post 2880. I did manage to boot at 2880 at some point but now it's back to giving me problems. I still have the timing issue as...

I do have to input both voltages as well as timings manually as well.

I might give the BIOS a try. Not too fussed about the RAM at this stage, although of course it will be nice if they hit their 3000. It's nice to see ASUS constantly working on this though, gives me hope. Then again, we're still in very early stages.

Since my supplier is as distributor for ASRock I couldn't really tell you much about their actual support. However, I've been using ASRock board exclusively since 2008. This ASUS board is the first non-ASRock board I've used since then. I've built many PCs for people, almost all built on ASRock...

    AMD Ryzen Discussion Thread.

I only got it because ASRock didn't provide any info to my supplier, only for the Taichi to arrive 2 days later than the Crosshair. I'm a very loyal ASRock customer and so far it seems that the Crosshair and the Taichi seem to be the highest quality boards available for AMD. Except for the...

    AMD Ryzen Discussion Thread.

I'm not going to attempt more pushes at this stage since I still need it day to day, which it has been doing just fine. Hopefully they iron out the boot issue, that's the only thing annoying me since it will not crash at 3.9GHz and 2666MHz after booting. It's pretty much just the boot thing now...

    AMD Ryzen Discussion Thread.

Reporting after about a month of usage now, can't say I'm disappointed with my 1800X at all. I'm coming from a 4.8GHz i5-2500k and 16GB of 1600MHz RAM so it's been a while. The only issues I have at the moment are, what I believe to be, motherboard related (Crosshair VI Hero, latest official...

    Silent Plex/Backup Server

The only issues with Seagate are certain batches on release. In my case, I was one of the unlucky people to buy into the first 3TB disks on the market, the infamous ST3000DM drives. In a 4 disk array I've replaced 7 disks, one failed after less than a month of 24/7 use. I now have 2 ST3000DM...

    upgrade itch unbearable

Reusing in the new build? You don't probably mean excluding only memory, out goes board and CPU. If you want a hex core, wait for Broadwell-e, like mentioned above, should be launched during Computex. If you don't need hex core or more, invest in Z170.

    Silent Plex/Backup Server

With my little HighPoint a 4x3TB RAID5 array full of data took around 36 hours to rebuild when using the RAID card controller. Haven't rebuilt under software yet. And yet again, like everyone else I will keep stressing on backup. Don't learn the hard way like the rest of us. Here's mine:

Adding to this, it doesn't seem possible to mount the top fans with the HDDs because the fans are mounting on the inside of the case and there's only a few mm until you hit the HDD cage. However, the top is still vented and the 8 disks that are hanging have enough space between them for air to...

You're right, it's why I put similar/identical not only similar but I think I should have elaborated further and mentioned that they have to have the same algorithm. For others mentioning the drive capabilities of the Node 804, I know quite a number of people that filled it to capacity without...

    Silent Plex/Backup Server

You could do it withing Windows or via the controller on your motherboard, it all depends. Within the OS is what we call software RAID, when you use specific controllers whether on the motherboard or as an expansion card that would be called hardware raid. Pros for hardware raid: Can be...

    Opinions & Suggestions for a Broadwell-E/EP build

This machine will be turned off, I'm foreseeing an average span of around 6-8 hours daily since I moved to multiple systems just to keep the power and heat down (it's ridiculously hot in Malta) so Gold would suffice. I do plan on overclocking, straight away in fact. It's something I've done with...

    Opinions & Suggestions for a Broadwell-E/EP build

Next part I don't fully understand is RAM. If Broadwell-E supports up to 2,400Mhz and the board OCs to more I should be basing my numbers off of the motherboard, right? Or am I overlooking something since the controller is on the CPU itself?

With a large amount of disks I'd go RAID6 (or RAIDZ2 under ZFS on Linux/FreeBSD/FreeNAS) and I'd get 2 sticks or RAM even if it's 2x4GB not 2x8GB to enable dual channel.

I wouldn't run the 8TB without backup just alone unless it's used how intended, cold storage. If it's critical data don't leave it just on the 8TB, have an extra copy. You should be doing this REGARDLESS of what drive you're using for data, not just the 8TB. I can report it works well formatted...

While you can run FreeNAS you will not get support from the FreeNAS community if you don't follow their basic guidelines. Which are 1GB of ECC RAM per 1TB of data with a minimum 8GB of ECC. While this is not required by FreeNAS or FreeBSD it seems to be required by the community. They will...

Gold it is, saves me almost €100 over the P2, awesome.

You're only going to be retrieving files from it, an FX-8350 is way overkill for your needs.

    Opinions & Suggestions for a Broadwell-E/EP build

I'll probably get a UPS before the arrival of this machine to put my file server on it as well. Scared a bit more about my data than components especially since electricity in my country isn't exactly stable, especially during Summer.

    Opinions & Suggestions for a Broadwell-E/EP build

Just a curiosity, I went gold for 24/7 on my file server since it uses such low power it was the best bet between a good PSU and efficiency. Where do Platinum and Titanium ratings break even roughly in savings? If at all since it's only a few %?

    Opinions & Suggestions for a Broadwell-E/EP build

So with an 850w I'm calculating 1kw at the wall, correct? Should make it enough for an OCed 140w cpu along with my GPUs I guess. I do also believe ASRock's X99X/3.1 would be the refreshes with USB 3.1 and multiple m.2. Seen them around, would of course make sense to get the latest, prices...

    Opinions & Suggestions for a Broadwell-E/EP build

I doubt a 700w bronze could keep up. My NZXT Hale82 850W bronze with the GPUs and OCed Sandy pulls 750w at the wall with its fan spinning at max. About the cooler, I think I should add that to the OP, I want to keep the Sandy machine as an operational machine for other tasks, I have a pair of...
