Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

The board was recently replaced by a PC repairman. The hypothesis was that the original board got overheated and fried. I don't know enough to say if that was true or not, and there is no telling where he got the replacement board from. It does seem like it's just one of the slots not being...

Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

OK was able to get into bios with a different keyboard; didnt see the option for memory remapping, thanks anyway. The bios says i only have 2048 too.

Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

Not sure. I tried to get into bios and I couldn't. It says to hit F2 to enter, but I think the keyboard is disabled while it's booting up. I hit it and hit it but it doesn't enter bios, just loads windows.

Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

It was grayed out. I checked it and 2048 appeared. It would not let me increase it, only decrease it. Interesting. What is controlling this?

Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

I'm just using the OEM sticks that came with the PC, they are all identical and all in the original slots. I have to have 3 sticks? I can't fill 2/3? I've never heard of that before... And I wasn't planning on mixing different sizes, just the two 4gb sticks.

Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

Thanks Jstn. That is indeed my board. I already tried reseating the sticks, didn't help. I went ahead and got 2 4gb sticks for a good deal on newegg. If they don't work I can return them, I am hoping i wont have issues though.

Why is Windows 7 64 bit only recognizing 2 gb

I have 3x 1gb sticks of memory in my mobo. CPU-z correctly identifies 3072 mb of memory installed, but when I go to the Windows system info, it says I only have 2.00 gb. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Mobo is a Gateway TBGM01. Any idea appreciated.... (this is not the same pc...

Cool thanks...I won't need to upgrade my PSU right?

Recomendation for upgrade from Radeon 4800

I have an Asus P5Q Pro motherboard. Looking for something that will be a major upgrade from my ATI Radeon 4850 but which will still be compatible and not give me issues. I realized I needed an upgrade when its performance on Battlefield 3 just didn't cut it. Looking to stay under $300. I won't...

Windows 7 freezes for 1 minute

Thanks for the replies guys. The problem resolved itself and I haven't had the freezing for about 2 weeks now. Not sure what happened. I am suspecting it is a RAM issue since sometimes my PC won't even start altogether, but whenever I remove and replace my RAM it magically works again. The...

Windows 7 freezes for 1 minute

Yeah I can afford it, but I'd rather diagnose the problem before going willy-nilly upgrading my hardware...especially if it's just a simple software bug. My hardware is sufficient for my current uses, so I'd rather not make any investments just yet.

Windows 7 freezes for 1 minute

I am able to move the mouse smoothly as normal (but can't click on anything, and it shows as the 'waiting' icon, the blue circle with the white highlight moving about). Things move on the screen...as I said the video in a Messenger video call continues to stream as normal most of the time a...

Windows 7 freezes for 1 minute

My custom built rig has lately, in the past 2 months or so, been having these spits of freezing. It will freeze for exactly 1 minute: always 1 minute, every time. I can time it down to the second. The weird thing is that when it freezes, some programs seem to be immune to it. When playing a...

Trying to compare IBM 360-95 to modern quad core

Awesome!! So I guess you got the 7.1 number by converting your processor to the Q6600, then multiplying by 4?

Trying to compare IBM 360-95 to modern quad core

I'm trying to get a feel for how fast the IBM 360-95--released as a supercomputer in 1968--was compared to a modern Q6600 processor. From IBM, it says "The Model 95s are capable of computing 14-digit multiplications at a rate of over 330-million in a minute. " However, I have no idea how I...

Why do the temps of my cores vary so much?

Yeah normally I'm in the lower 30's, it's just bloody hot out today. In the winter I was getting below 20.

Why do the temps of my cores vary so much?

Okay, so you guys seem to mostly agree it's because I have a sh*t HS, right? The app I'm running for full load is called climateprediction, similar to SETI@home, and under task manager it shows all four cores at 100%. I am using Realtemp for my temperature. Here is the result from the...

Why do the temps of my cores vary so much?

I have the Intel Q6600 quad core processor. According to Realtemp, the different cores are: 69, 69, 75, 79 (overclocked to 3.1 ghz with stock HS at full load). My question is, why so much variation? Why a full 10 degrees difference in temp from the first 2 cores to the 4th one?

    CPu-z says multiplyer is 6?

Oh, yeah, you guys were right like always, i just put it under a little load and it jumped back up to 9x. I feel dumb. Thanks guys!

    CPu-z says multiplyer is 6?

I'm not sure what's going on with my overclocked q6600 on Asus p5q. I was running it fine at around 3.1 ghz, fsb around 345. Now all of a sudden, cpu-z says I am only running 2.04 GhZ...the FSB is still 345 mhz, but the multiplier is now at x6.0 instead of x9??? Realtemp also shows me at...

overclocked from 2.4 to 3.2, no temp increase??

So the fact that I have crap ram isn't making things run slower than 3.2? (The ram is rated at 667 mhz, but according to cpu-z it is running at 887...ASUS bios automatically overclocks it to keep up with CPU I think, but I don't know how effective it is.)

    RAM and overclocking

I have vcore at 1.28 right now. Pepsi the thing is it doesn't seem like my overclocks are making a difference as far as heat. 53 C is a pretty safe temp at full load isn't it? I am using an intel heat sink, but I also have an extra fan right next to it and no side cover on my case, so the...

overclocked from 2.4 to 3.2, no temp increase??

My cpu temp, according to Real Temp, is only about 53 C at 100% load on all 4 cores of my Q6600. This is after overclocking it from 2.4 ghz to 3.2 ghz. The thing is it was running at about 53 C back when i was at 2.4. It makes me think the OC didn't work. CPU-z says I'm running at 3.2, but...

    RAM and overclocking

Hm. Well I pushed the CPU up to 3.2 ghz now, the ram is running at 443mhz. I don't get it though. I mean I don't have any bench testing software, but according to realtemp, my temperatures dont seem any higher than they were when i was running at 2.6 ghz. I'm steady at about 53C with 100% load...
