Been out of the game for a while. Could use some advice for my son's build...

Here is what I have coming: Reusing a blu-ray drive from a previous build. Appreciate all the help. Maybe I'll throw some pics on the build thread once I get all the parts!

Been out of the game for a while. Could use some advice for my son's build...

Thank you so much everyone! Still as helpful and spirited as ever here at TPU! All good considerations and will save me from wasting a bunch of money and energy. I'll provide an update on a "final" and see if it still passes the "sniff test"... Likely one spot. More likely - the egg Well...

Been out of the game for a while. Could use some advice for my son's build...

Noted. I'll take your advice. No gaming advantage to a 6700k, eh? That's good for the pocketbook! Is SLI not a consideration for anyone anymore? Unfortunately, his eagerness to jack his FPS in Minecraft over 500 drove him to purchase a EVGA GTX 960 SSC without consulting me first... oh well...

Been out of the game for a while. Could use some advice for my son's build...

Good point. Thanks. Maybe I'll go with the lower profile ram and get the double-fan version! Also, the PSU in that list is not the one I truly want. EVGA 110-B2-0750-VR 80 PLUS Bronze 750W Semi-Modular SLI/Crossfire Again, any thoughts between the different socket builds (MSI z97 G5 + i7...

Been out of the game for a while. Could use some advice for my son's build...

Hello everyone. Going to put together a set-up for my son. He already has a GPU (he's been using it in dad's antiquated rig. Yep, it's still kicking...) pcpartpicker link Not looking for a monster system, just something to game comfortably on for a while. Was originally looking at a 1150...

    DVD to 1080p

There is ONE program I used to fiddle with before the HD formats took hold, DVD Rebuilder. You can plug in scripts or just different filters. Pretty easy. But as others have said, a good hardware scaler or upconverting player (w/REON, Realta or VRS) will save you ALOT of headache. My...

    Stange Noises...after OC

Try putting your ear close the PSU. I get a very faint squeal from it, similar to what you describe. Most believe it is originating from one of the chokes, but if the sound is coming off the mobo.... back away slowly. I took my E6600 to 3.8GHz with a Tuniq Tower and an old Intel...

    Making Crossfire Work and Optimization

If your E6550 is @ stock 2.33GHz, then that is your bottleneck. Crossfire is working, just not up to it's potential. Look into overclocking your processor.

ATI CrossFire Xtension v.1.0 Released, Forces CrossFire Support

Someone open this up. Could it be no more than a GUI to rename the .exe to a program that already has a Xfire profile? (ie. take Prey.exe and rename AFR-FRIENDLYD3D.EXE) *grumble* Lazy kids.... /*grumble*

    Making Crossfire Work and Optimization

My method is a little, how do you say, "paraniod" at this point as the newer Cats have cleaned up their act. But if you are having problems, this should work. I have always been of the belief that you should utilize 2 bridges IF you are gaming at higher rez (1920x1280 or higher-which you...

    Making Crossfire Work and Optimization

Sometimes if you look in your "Add/Remove Progams", you will find more than one copy of MVC++, I would then delete both. Then if your next driver install wants to load it, that will be fine.

Quite a nice list of accomplishments! Well done! Enjoy the system you've "created" by not settling for "stock" performance! Cheers! :toast:

How to install CrossfireX HD4850+HD4870 ?

When the 8.X first came out, it appeared they negated the need for C++, but seems as recent as 8.4 (and particularly for Vista) it's installation came back into the equation. I don't get it...
