MSI Announces BIOS Updates for Next-Generation LGA1151 Processors

It was stupid non the less. Haswell-Refresh was just that, a refresh without any hardwarechanges, just better cooling and 100MHz more. Broadwell was a better CPU, especially in the Video-department an the two released desktop CPU were fast because of the eDRAM L4-Cache while needing less power...

MSI Also Announces H170 and B150 Based Gaming Series Motherboards

I appreciate their effort to introduce cheaper mobos for gamers because just a fraction of them neads boards with 2 to 3 PCIe-16x Slots - but those boards are crap! Way too much PCI (one for old Audiocards etc is ok, but three?), upright SATA-Ports, VGA and DVI instead of Displayport, no USB...

    Nvidia 8800GT Bios UPDATE?

Why should it, those brackets are made to be removed for installing expansion cards.

    Nvidia 8800GT Bios UPDATE?

I have the same card and got massivly lower temps by removing the next PCI-bracket below the card so the hot air could get out of the case better. Died on me a few months ago though, had to repair it by baking it in the ocen two times, now it has run without problems for two months. My...

Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

For christ's sake, google block diagrams. Specs on intel homepage ar mostly unusable since they don't give much information most of the time. Every ICH form 6 to 10 had 4 to 6 PCI Lanes for Expansion slots and chips.

Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

Nope, your Information is flawed. All ICHs for S775 since ICH6 had between 4 and 6 PCIe-Lanes integrated for periphals and expansion slots, while the MCH contained sixteen to 32 (X38/48) of them for graphics or non at all on specific IGP-chipsets. Since DMI is PCIe based you could say the ICH...

Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

Ultrabooks rely even more heavily on USB3.0 than desktops since they usually only have a small amount of flash memory and no ODD. So the errata is even more relevant there.

Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

Yes, all chips have errata, but usually only those don't get fixed that son't cause major problems or only under rare circumstances. This one might affect quite a few systems since today S3 is used heavily an many only use S3/S4 instead of shutdown, especially laptops. It causes Problems with...

Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

The news talks about Lynx Point which is the codename for the new chipset series (Z87, H87, B85 etc.). Since the xHCI-Controller sits there, it's the Chipset which needs a revision. However, there are indeed a couple of SoC Haswells with Chipset on pacage, which could be affected aswell...

Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

Shit, I'm totally waiting for S1150 since I wan't to upgrade already (still using an Athlon 64 X2 AM2, impossible to upgrade to phenom, wanted to upgrade first with sandy, then Ivy but postponed due to lack of time). How can a big company like Intel with a product planned so far ahead an with...

USB 3.0 Performance to Double with New Capabilities

Just in Theory. ATM even with helps like USB-Turbo mode (Asrock) or UASP USB3.0 gets just over 300MB/s at best, without these its mor like 250-270MB/s. So best we can expect from USB3.0 2.0/b/superduperhyperspeed is about the same performance as eSATA 6Gb/s - but until this hits the market...

GeForce GT 730M and Radeon HD 8550M Surface in the Wild

I've seen manufacturers fiddle with the specs of an existing Model, I've seen them totaly changing the specs like using a downclocked GF108 for a GT 520M supposed to use a GF119 and I've even seen them making up ne card for an existing series ranging from just changing some letters (GeForce FX...

GeForce GT 730M and Radeon HD 8550M Surface in the Wild

Well, wait and see when Nvidia anounces Geforce 700M Series. I'll bet it will be within a couple of days. It is not up to individuall retailers to rename graphiccards, so Acer can only have ignored a release date. It was common throughout the last generations to even use the new name for...

GeForce GT 730M and Radeon HD 8550M Surface in the Wild

Here in Germany there even is a version of the Acer Aspire V3-571G with a GT 710M. Since the V3-571G is available either with a GT 630M or a GT 640M I would deduce the GT 730 is a rebranded GT 640 while the GT 710M is a rebranded GT 630M. Oh well not that I care but the sooner the last old...

Gigabyte Unveils GeForce GTX 660 Ti WindForce III 3 GB Graphics Card

There are no official cards, the EVGAs card based on the GTX 670/660 Ti reference-PCB is as official as it can get but I'd consider the other ones based on the GTX 680 PCB semi-official.

Gigabyte Unveils GeForce GTX 660 Ti WindForce III 3 GB Graphics Card

They are not, not totally at least. Almost all of them use the GTX 680 reference PCB, like this one, while some use the GTX 670/660 Ti reference PCB. Only very few use a custom PCB, but many use a custom cooler.
