1.3A fans

anyone know if its safe to hook a couple 120x38mm 1.3A fans up to a motherboards fan con connectors, I found some in a old dell and they move so much air I just want to use them in my pc.

IT IS NOT SAFE.

Use PSU connectors or buy a high wattage fan controller.

15 watts? A cpu fan plug these days can take 25 watts, at least on an asus board. For the other plugs 15 watts would probably be at their limit. So I'd definitely rule out doing multiple fans of that caliber.

For a small example my mobo can output a maximum of 4.44watts. Your fan = 12v X 1.3amp = 15.6watts

3 times the maximal power !!!

Nope. 4.44watts maximum on a recent Asus M4A785-M

M? The manual on my last two boards said 25 watts for the cpu fan plug. Need a full-sized board.

Depends on how many connectors you have i suppose anyway. But seriously i wont take any chances if you cant find the infos. Plus it on the psu.

The fan connectors support cooling fans of 350mA~740mA (8.88W max) or a total of 1A~2.22A (26.64W max) at +12V.

Where did you go those? I took mine form the manual supplied with the mobo :| I have only 2 connectors so it will be hard toget 26.64w if each connectors have a max of 8.88w

anyone know the max for p35 diamond, it has 6 fan connectors

I did try the fan in my SM board after rewiring it but pwm didn't seem to work and it ran at full blast(extremely loud), but I want to know if the diamond can take it

any idea what CFM the dell ones you got are?

I think its 150 or 160 cfm but its 50db, sounds like a dam jet engine.

don't the fans just use what power is available to them? they don't exactly draw power like a gfx card does... if you plug it in a lower power source it'll just spin slower right?

on a side note... i have a .3A 120v 120mm fan

No, fans are stupid unless you use PWM or a controller. They're much like a lightbulb- they'll pull whatever they're rated for, unless you use a dimmer of some kind.

mine are known to melt fan controllers and fan headers on boards they pull what the label says unless you vary the votage

It wasn't even near it

waste of 5 bucks for that coffee

they say 1.3a but I think they're suckin more than that and movin more than what they're rated

My advice just use 4 pin molex to power better to be safe than kill your mobo unless you've got money to burn and don't care about cookin a fan header
