No way! My redhair is size of notebook & weights like handgun! This Panzerkampfwagen 88 ...1kg, without liquidcooling block! This peace of HARDWARE will make PC one of heavyest parts of furniture. Placing the PC in small fridge will be more practical, just open, take can, close & continue.

Damn, besides the size of the card, notice the 2 pci-e power connectors on that B***H! Like their 6800 ultra, needing 2 power lines. I'll pass.

Well, after installing this card and close the case, the next thing you will here is some ripping noise and bang! the next thing you notice is that the card landed on your PCI cards or the bottom and there is a Big hole on your mobo where there was a PCI-e slot :nutkick:

i just noticed this why the hell does it have a speaker on it so it can beep at you before it blows up ?

My 6800 has the same speaker, it beeps if you don't plug the molex power connector.

One question, don't this things have a thermal diode to keep them from frying themself if the cooler fails? I mean, CPUs have had this safety feature since the old 1.4Ghz P4 proc., how hard would it be for nVida and/or Ati to implement that protection into the GPUs silicon?

Who ever is considering this block, say stop to yourself.

The original thread (in German) is located here.

The good thing about the block: it shows excellent milling quality of whatever machine was used.

Now, there are several VERY bad things about this block:

One thing can be said for sure: if this block is made out of aluminium and copper (unless the silver part would be silver (which I doubt) or nickel plated copper (why have just parts nickel plated?)), there will definitely be galvanic corrosion. There is no stopping it (yes, additives can put it off, but it is only a question of time). The block will definitely corrode around the area where there is a transition between the ALU and copper, causing a leak = water on your G80 GPU. I'm sure no one wants that.

Next, there are several things we can deduct upon looking at the design.

The block will definitely be a flow killer. Thin channels, and several U turns. Another thing that is interesting is the orientation of the fins above the core - by the looks, the water just flows above (i.e. there is no direct link). A more logical approach would have been to have the fins rotated 90 degrees - much less restriction and better performance.

The channels should be made wider, with less U turns.

Lastly, the rubber o-ring is just way too complicated. Why not make the block a little bigger, and have an o-ring with straight edges?

Overall, I'm not impressed.

Credit to MaxxxRacer for highlighting some of these issues.

Was joking before, shouldn't duraluminium be ressistant to corrosion? I was shure it was made of this stuf? And what about the construction of car radiators? Aluminium case with honeykomb & free flow of liquid? Will increase the surface for heat exchange! Or cordierit ceramic!?! It is ressistant to termal stress & could be produced like for filters in ironworks, spongy with forced flow? No corrosion, great surface. With those prices, we should get something like that.

I think it says that the material is anodized aluminum (my German isn't that great)

I'm no chemical engineer, but if you're buying an 8800GTX right now, to use that, I dont think you're going to have the card and cooler around long enough to actually cause any corrosion.

My 6800 has the same speaker, it beeps if you don't plug the molex power connector.
My x850XT flashes a paragraph of red text on the screen saying PLUG IN YOUR POWER CONNECTOR YOU TARD! basically, when I forget to plug it in...

As for thermal protection.. they arleady monitor their temps, and do indeed clock down. They haven't yet reached "OMG HEAT TOO BAD = SHUTDOWN" status though....

Although, overclocking often overrides this function. If you're overclocking and its overheating, really, thats your problem... not Nvidias/Ati's.

Nvidia are getting foolish... man... ATI & Amd are laughing their dicks off at the amount of stupidity that NVIDIA has shown to them.

Is that card with resistor faulty?

I read that to take maximum benefit from this card you need to buy also a damm fast CPU
Plus a new PSU I guess...

anyway how much this thing will cost, anyone knows?

maan im am so fricking pissed, the new 88GTX are on sale in england at £420 EX VAT !!!. why doesnt this card replace the 7900GTX price when that just came out. its like when the 9800XT was released it was £270/£320 (ex/inc vat) and then when the X1900XTX was released it was like £390/£460. in theory the X1900XTX should be near about £270/£320 which the 9800XT when it came out, now i know u guys are gonna say that the X1900XTX is faster but thats not the point, the point is when the X1900XTX came out it should of replaced the "new graphic card out" price

now i dont know much about nvidia coz ive always liked ATI but im sure all the nvidia graphic cards when released cost about £320 for the best one and now its like £480 inc vat

computer prices are ment to be getting cheaper every day

this is just dumb
