10900k in a Z590, can I use all M.2 slots

Hi
My Z490 motherboard had issues, and I was able to get a refund. Now when I came to get another, for just £30 I was able to get a Z590 (had a lot of plus points over last one) even though I am not getting a 11900k. My question is, can I use the M.1 slot?

I saw people saying you cannot use the 1st slot if you are on 10th gen, which would leave me with the 2nd and 3rd, but I just wonder, if I have a pcie4 M.2, will I be able to use it in the 1st slot? or is it totally down to the 11th Gen CPU.

Hi,
Supposed to be the only pci-4 slot you'd have to review the manual for compatibility it may just run at pci-3 speed and or maybe it have sata/ pch option in bios.

More than likely on a Z590 motherboard the 1st M.2 slot is wired directly to the CPU. Since 10th gen CPUs don't have the PCI-E lanes for that slot, it only works with 11th gen processors. But you will have to confirm for sure in the manual of your specific motherboard.

you can't use the slot under the CPU since it's a gen 4 link to the CPU lanes that your CPU does not even have in Gen 3.
Only Chipset.

Yeah, I thought so. The board has 3 slots, so it's not an issue, really as I only have 2 M.2 drives.

It depends on the board, certain boards seem to have switches to be able to route PCIe lanes to the normally CPU-m.2 slot.

Hi. It's the Asus Z590-A gaming WiFi. Later today with luck.
Would be handy if this one can use all 3 slots.

Only Rocket Lake has CPU PCIe Lanes for Storage.
Skylake has 16 for the GPU and that's it.

It should say in the manual whether you can use the slot with a Comet Lake CPU
