Seems the fan in my PSU has had better days and its making an unholy noise. So i opened it up and got ready a spair 120mm fan. That's when i noticed the one in the PSU has a tiny connector that's 2pin. Now my question,

1. Where would i get a fan like this as all my usual online retailers dont stock anything like it or

2. Would it just be quicker for me to swap the connector with a 3pin fan and trim the yellow wire off if this can be done.

I have replaced serveral 80MM psu fan by just swapping connectors.
Has always worked for me- I just roll up the extra wire and tie it off....

Ok, well there's a twist to the story. Its not a 2Pin connection. Is wired into the board directly *sigh*

Anyway what i have done is cut the wire and braided it together with the new fan and used some electrical tape to cover the join. Will this be sufficient ?

Also the fan that came out was a 12v 0.30A Replaced with a 12V 0.16A. Will this cause any problems also ?

no prob on the .16a (but it may spin slower that the original one)

I would solder the wires and use shrink tubing but if you cant you cant, just be careful

if i were you i'd have got some heatshrink tubing to cover the wires
why? well after time if you use electrical tape it'll go goey which won't cause any problems but is hard to clean (if you put another fan in) without using chemicals,
also if you do use tape make sure you tuck it out the way of heat sinks as it is more likely to melt than heatshrink tubing

Tape is fine if you have nothing else.

I'm constantly swapping out fans from things, even stereos!

:D

Personally I twist the wires as much as I can, fold the wire excess down and wrap tape around the individual wires then wrap around both wires with tape again just incase.
