140mm case fans

Hey guys, I need some general pointers on how I should be looking for 140mm case fans. I can navigate through newegg with filters but just wanted some general guidance from more experienced members.

they will be used for : 2x top exhaust fans (horizontal?)
what types of fan bearings is optimal for this use and position? i know sleeve and 2-ball is bad for this.

my budget is: trying to aim for $15 shipped per fan (unless you can sell me on better/expensive-r)

-non-blacks fans have priority over black fans, but not a deal-breaker in any way

P.S
round-framed fans - do they fit in 140mm mounting holes like normal?

what can you guys recommend me ?

**the rosewill hyperborea really sticks out; that cfm to noise level seems awesome

Just because it's LED doesn't mean you have to have Molex. Most have a 3-pin MB fan header, and include a Molex adaptor in case you want to run of the PSU cables directly.

In The Cooler Master and Cougar have great reviews.

I like them both.

If I needed another set I would either get more of the above or try Cougar's.

I would avoid Phanteks for exhaust- I have a 140mm from them in another system for exhaust and it's constantly clicking or getting stuck :shadedshu:

I prefer dual ball bearing for horizontal fans, just keep that in mind. I love my Koolance branded fans. 120mm fans are better than 140mm fans usually. Just a more standard size so theres better ones available. Get some 38mm thick if you want to really move air.

Cougars are great but they will die if you run them horizontal. I have a (phenom2) case full of nothing but cougars and it performs stellar.

yeah i was a bit (worried?) about cougars and horizontal. might have to look at other options.

This might be a good choice, I have a 120mmx25 and a few 120x38 of the same brand, they have nice motors for the money. Koolance's site is overpriced, its usually $10-15.

Another factor that can impact fan longevity is fan mounting. Fans can be positioned horizontally, or shaft center line parallel, or perpendicular to the ground. Fan orientation does not affect the longevity of ball bearing fans. Ball bearing fans can be mounted in any position because preloading of the bearings is built in during the bearing manufacturing stage. Preloading describes the procedure by which manufacturers build an initial side load, such as a spring or a wave washer against the balls, into the ball bearing. This makes the bearing more durable. In comparison, sleeve bearing fans can maintain life spans comparable to their ball bearing counterparts when the sleeve bearing fans are mounted in vertical positions. However, when sleeve bearing fans are mounted in any position other than vertical, the fan’s life span decreases. When selecting a bearing type, the design engineer must consider the orientation for which the fan will be mounted. If the fan needs to be mounted vertically, the engineer might choose a sleeve bearing fan. However, if the fan is mounted in any orientation other than vertical, the engineer may want to select a ball bearing fan.
