Want to build a new pc as my old one finally died. My old pc was built for 1080p gaming (its all i needed) but now i want to play 1440p and see how it feels ( i am trying to get to the am5 socket so i am able to upgrade when they finally release GTA VI ) as of right now i am looking at the Ryzen 5 7600x and the Radeon rx6800 xt, could i get some people to "check my work" and maybe recommend some parts.

Post a pcpartspicker link for your locale and expect to hear X3D a lot in response.

It's too easy to wind into pretty random combos as of right now because you never stated your budget, intended games and frame rates. You also never mentioned your wants regarding size, wattage and noise levels.

Please give us more details.

I do not currently have a budget, or frame rate, think anything above 60 fps (1440p) i am waiting to hear from you guys before i make up my mind on what i want. Think of it as me weighing all of my options.

That hardly gives us much to go on. Let's start with region of the world you will be shopping in and move forwards on that.

Based on German prices as you're likely EU.

You don't need an X3D unless you're targetting 240 Hz with a RTX 4090 or better, or play very specific games.
For the price of just the 9800X3D you can get a good 14 core CPU on current platform, motherboard, and cooler.

If you have more money, get 2x32 GB instead and the 1000 W version of the same PSU.

If you have less money, get a 12400F based platform instead with DDR4, won't notice a difference in 120 Hz gaming.

I would advise against any GPU pre RDNA 4, as the upscalers suck and they essentially can't do ray tracing, which is the standard since around 2024 for new AAA games. Doom Dark Ages, Indiana Jones etc, you can't disable it. I doubt GTA6 will differ much.

Do you already own the 6800 XT? It's not worth buying one in 2025, unless you pay dirt for it

What country are you located, will you be reusing any components such as storage, do you require a monitor and what is your budget?

The most helpful information you can provide is your budget - along with what that budget needs to cover (eg. operating system, peripherals like a display, mouse, keyboard, etc).

Also, are you planning to reuse any components from your current PC to help reduce costs?

And your location? This can affect pricing, availability and recommendations

I appreciate the advice but like I said I want to move to AMD's am5 socket on a less powerful cpu because am5 is going to be around for a while and is going to allow me to upgrade when gta 6 releases next year (hopefully)

no i changed my mind right after posting and seeing the prices and am thinking on a 7800xt 16gb version for $740 on Newegg

USA, no, no, still thinking

just cpu and gpu, maybe no more than $900 for those parts

7500F is a wiser budget choice, doesn't lose much to 7600X but it's a lot cheaper.

$740 on a 7800 XT is madness. That card needs to be $300 below that to be worth buying right now. If you're spending that much, RX 9070 XT. You're just a few bucks off a 5070 Ti at MSRP (and you can get one with some patience if you are in the US - look at Best Buy if there are no Micro Centers near you)

btw thank you @Dr. Dro you helped me on my last project, it went well but after some fun i had to re

You're welcome

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kVmqwY

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor ($208.29 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 16 GB Video Card ($682.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $891.27

The RX 9070 GPU is a good chunk faster than the previous Gen 7800 XT. At 1440p, if the games you play are GPU intensive, especially AAA games at high settings, you want to buy the fastest GPU your budget can afford

get straight 9600X if you want AM5 only. for mobo, get B650 or B850. you don't need "E-versions" or "X-series", they are overprice bling-bling toys.
for RAM, you don't need to spend more than for 2x16 6000 MHz (oh, sorry, MT/s:D  ).

PC gaming is currently in a very bad position and a 7800XT is literally a side/Downgrade.
Solid AAA Native! 1440p max settings is at least 5080 territory.

btw just to clarify.. the 1440p resolution you meant 16:9 2560x1440 and not 21:9 3440x1440 resolution correct?

One of the worst purchases you could possibly make.

It is just sad to see the anti AMD sentiment from the exact same people, every time someone mentions AMD GPUs for Gaming. What is ridiculous is how bombastically negative they are in products they have never used. I loved the 245K post from a Staff member when the OP said their want is AM5.

Go ahead. Justify a 7800xt for $740 in 2025.

Room temperature.

Most 5070s are $999 the 9070 is $899. You can find 7800Xts for $688. It still remains a fact that money matters and $740 is less than both of those. Sometimes it seems that some people forget about that. Please don't bring in the RT and DLSS BS when the OP says that they want an AMD card. In 2025 no one needs to be reminded of that. There is actually nothing wrong with a 7800XT for 1440P Gaming. Then the OP gets to experience AMD software fully.
