150GB Raptors or 2x SSD

I have two WD 150GB Raptors that I used in Raid 0 for a bit. Model WD1500AHFD. Would two 64gb SSDs in Raid 0 give noticeable improvement over these? (Not including the lost space of course.)

Just wondering if I should sell these two drives off. Thanks.

That's a hell of a system Pete!! What do you currently use the 150's for? If you do any video editing/creating do you have an external to save your work?

More space, more speed. Raid 5 (or which ever is 3+ drives)

Currently, they're doing nothing. They were in Raid 0 on my other system as the OS drive. When I switched to this behemoth a couple of months ago I just used a WD 500GB I had lying around. No video editing.

I'm planning a new build in April with a Phenom 955 and water cooling. I figured if I'm going to build something like that, I might as well go with SSDs, but I don't know how much of a real-world difference I'll see.

SSDs have increased speeds but decreased storage space, if you want performance and don't care about the price, then go for it.

I think I agree with Moonpig. Get another Raptor and Raid 5 em, that's what I'd do but I know the guy at the local PC shop said he setup a RAID 0 with the OCZ SSD 60Gb's and he was very impressed.

Thanks. I just figured if I could get two SSDs for the OS/apps and get a 1tb or two for other stuff, I would be all set.

I'd did that with my Raptor, Thought Windows7 and my Steam folder (like 80GB) would be dandy, then bang - i only have 20GB spare. That's one of the main reasons i don't want an SSD just yet. Along with price obviously.

Anyways, i think Raid5. Where you live anyways?

I was also thinking the sale of the raptors might help me afford all the stuff I want to buy. I can always use a regular hdd for now and get SSDs when the build is done.

was going to offer my Raptor, but shipping prices are stupid.

I'm going to sell my Raptor and Spinpoint, then buy a 1TB. I don't need the speed, and heat that conveniently matches it.

Yeah, I understand that. I could do 2x32gb SSD just for OS, use my current 500 and get a 1TB.

Pretty much you wont see a huge performance difference between the Raptors and SDDs ... Its a quicker response time if you are planning to do alot to multitasking, aswell writing/reading alot of information, SDDs will make the response time quicker, but I dont think its worth it just yet until they make bigger size and lower cost on SDDs..

In my opinion, see if you can still sell your SDDs and make atleast some profit considering they are small SDDs , use the raptors in a RAID0 , and just wait a couple months down the road for bigger capacity SDDs

Or if you want are going to use the SDDs, Use it as your primary OS and programs drive in Raid0, and use the raptors or any other HDD's for storage

Matters a lot of what SSD's you are looking at... Some have write speeds much slower than those Raptors, although they will read faster.

I can speak because I had raptors in raid0 and now have 60gb ocz solid in raid0. you won't believe the performance difference! everything loads seconds after you click it and some of them load right away! my raptors were making too much noise so I sold them for ssd and I'm never going back to HDD for os and programs again. just my 2 cents, check my specs for read and write speeds. on the raptor I used to get 150/150 read and write and 7-8ms latency; but on these ssd I get 270/170 read write and .2ms response and I'm planning on getting another one because Fitseries3 gots 3 and it makes me jealous!
