1660 Super, 1660 Ti, or RTX 2060/2060 Super?

I've looked high and low for answers to my questions, but only ended up getting confused, so I thought maybe you guys could help me. I have a 165 Hz 1080p monitor that I intend to keep for a good long while (3+ years), an RX 5700 XT that's been nothing but headaches -- so much so that I'm throwing in the towel and attempting to resell it atm. It's not bricked, per se, but the DP ports aren't working on it, only HDMI. Anyway, I intend to use whatever money I'm able to get from it on an Nvidia GPU this time around, and have narrowed it down to 3 potential cards -- the 1660 Super, the 1660 Ti, and the RTX 2060/2060 Super. The thing is though, I don't care much for the whole ray-tracing thing, and even though the RTX 2060 CAN do it, doing so leads to a big performance hit. But yeah, I don't care for the RT stuff the RTX offers. What I'm more interested in is the extra 2GBs of RAM the 2060 Super offers over the non-Super and the two GTX cards I'm also looking at.

As I mentioned earlier in this post, my RX 5700 XT is giving me headaches, so I'm using my Nitro+ RX 580 in the interim. I know the 2060 Super would be a definite upgrade in performance, but like I said, I find ray-tracing meh. However, what kind of performance upgrade would I see going from the 580 to either of the GTX cards?

If the ports' issue is indeed the card's problem, I'm guessing an RMA or exchange is somehow out of the question? Quite frankly, something like that would be preferable to getting any of the above cards at this point in time. It sounds like the 5700 XT isn't the source of your problems - it's the specific card that you own that is causing your headaches. As with any other defective product, I would just play the RMA game and see if I can't get one that works properly. I haven't heard anything particularly abysmal about Sapphire's products this generation, and I've had good experiences with both their Radeons and their service in the past.

The 2060 Super is not what I would consider an upgrade to the 5700 XT. I took it over the 5700s because I needed a short and sturdy card above all else. The "performance upgrade" from the 580 to the 2060 and 2060 Super is not insignificant at all, and like the 5700 XT, the 2060 Super is a good 1440p60 and 1080p120+ solution, but the problem is that the 580 isn't your "card" per se, you're just using it as a stopgap without caring much for its performance at all - the 5700 XT is.

I can see that the 2060s released after the Super are supposed to be priced competitively, but I haven't seen any sort of exceptionally appealing pricing out of the Super. The new 2060s are also a knee jerk reaction to the 5600 XT, so in terms of physical build quality they seem pretty half-assed even for their price, and rather unlike a proper release. Is it really a deal-breaker to sit with 1080p60 for now on the RX 580 until the new generation arrives? 1440p would be a very different story and would make the 2060 Super quite a bit more appealing.

The 5700 XT has actually been RMA'd once already. Judging by the paperwork, they replaced my original card that I bought from Newegg with a different model number. And now I'm having issues with this new one, and I don't know who's "fault" it is, mine or theirs. They assured me the replacement card had been stress tested overnight before they sent it...but neither DP port is working. I'm honestly just very confused. In fact, I'm not even certain, given what they've told me about having stress tested the card, if I'd even be able to RMA it again because it's basically my word against theirs. I love Sapphire cards, been using them exclusively since the HD 7790. Their customer service is great too.

As far as the 2060 and Super are concerned, I haven't really seen much difference in price between the two -- and while browsing Newegg, I actually found an MSI Tri-Frozr 2070 for $407!

Since you have a 165Hz monitor, I would recommend getting a 2060 super or 2070

RTX 2060 is almost x2 faster than RX 580.

But there are still better options than just selling the RX 5700 XT.

Amazon 30-day return policy isn't a brick wall. Especially now with the coronavirus crisis. You can try to ask for a refund.

You can RMA the card again. Tell them DP isn't working, and insist on a brand new card.

I know this can be frustrating. Last year, I bought XFX RX 580 from Amazon and the DP ports almost fried my system. Same results with the replacement card.

Since you play at high refresh rate 1080p display and you want to play games for 3 years, then the preferred choice would be the RTX 2060 Super if you can afford it, and next to that the RTX 2060 Non super. The 1660 super is a great 1080p - 60fps card, it can do over 60 fps at 1080p but it would be inconstant across AAA games which would be jarring.

And to answer the final part of your question, you will not see a lot of performance uplift upgrading from an RX 580 to a 1660 Super. You will however see a sizable upgrade going from an RX 580 to a RTX 2060 Super.

I think you should RMA again. Tell them: The DisplayPorts ports aren't working. Maybe the card got damaged during delivery.

When you get a 100% working card, either keep it, or sell it for a full price.

Well, with these things, you don't know if you don't try, right? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Newegg is a fuckup that has only gotten worse over the years, though. I've only ever bought stuff off the Egg that either never needs to be RMA'd (Intel CPUs) or has such strong manufacturer's support that I need not deal with the egg (Noctua and Samsung).

If there isn't something wrong with the 2070, that would be a no-brainer. 2070 is a more direct competitor to the 5700 XT, and a very slight edge in performance over the 2060 Super that roughly corresponds to the handful of extra shaders. $400 is what I bought my 2060S FE at last year, so I'd say that's about as a good a deal as you're going to get, unless a crazy fire sale comes down the line. IIRC 2070 has not been part of the product stack for a long time, and hasn't been reintroduced a la 2060.

First things first. Get that XT sorted; a properly working Nitro+ should be a damn solid card.

I vote get your 5700XT sorted out... All these cards except that 2070 are a decent downgrade and losing over $100 and then ending up with a slower card really sucks. I would just chalk this all up as bad luck and you could also just as easily get a RTX or GTX card delivered with issues..... Stay away from Newegg and stick with amazon if you do go that route.

Well, none? It's a downgrade, all of them...I know it sucks, especially with what is going on today, but setup an RMA (again) for the card and get it fixed is my take. Sorry about the bad luck, but assuredly, another one won't have that problem.

But if you had to, RTX 2060 Super is the fastest of the bunch.

Hmmm, judging from most of the responses, I gather I'm a fool for wanting to sell my XT But in all seriousness, I'm probably just freaking out and being too hasty because I've never had trouble with any of the Sapphire cards I've purchased in the past (HD 7790, R9 280X, RX 580), so it's a bit jarring, for me at least, to suddenly have problems with one of their cards. That's not to say they're perfect -- no AIB partner is, just some are better than others -- and I understand things happen sometimes.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'll play the RMA game for a bit, continue to post in the thread I made for my XT issues with any questions/issues that may come up, etc. I really do love the look of the Nitro+ 5700 XT, with the triple fans and the light bar and gorgeous backplate...everything else I've looked at looks 'meh' to me by comparison. About the only thing thatt comes remotely close is MSI's 2070S/2080/S Gaming X Trio, and you can't buy the 2070 Super variant anymore, which is REALLY strange.

But yeah, I feel like you guys have "talked me down from the ledge" so to speak in regards to giving up on the XT. So thank you for that.

Dealing with faulty hardware can be a bit stressful… especially when you're being questioned and told "it was tested".

RX 580 isn't that bad for the time being. It can run every game in decent frame rate.

This is the usual RMA dickering. Some vendors do that to avoid sending a brand new item in a sealed box.
