1700X Upgrade

I have a rig that runs a 1700X that I feel like is getting long in the tooth as some games I run on it at 1080p minimums aren’t as good as I want them to be and I plan to run 144Hz 1080p soon on it. I was looking at the 3700X but price wise not looking to pay that much for a backup :roll:

. What do you guys of think about that 2700X or 3600(X) as I upgrade. GPU wise it’s running a RTX 2070.

my 2700x does just fine for 144hz gameplay, a 3600(x) would do even better according to reviews

I’m really debating as well if losing 2 Cores and 4 threads is worth it

2700x isn't much of an upgrade.

If I was in your position I'd probably wait till the 3700x dropped in price if I wanted higher 1080p FPS, only a matter of time before those prices come down if Zen/Zen+ prices were anything to go by.

I'd go for a 3600 or 3700X (3600X doesn't have that good price/performance ratio).

The 6 cores/12 threads you DO have (with the 3600) are each faster so multi threaded is closer than you'd expect and single threaded jumps right ahead - unelss you had an all core manual OC.

If you DID have an all core manual OC, you're gunna enjoy drastically lower thermals from 1k to 3k gen ryzen.

Well, 3600 the non X owns 1700X in every aspect. Productivity and gaming. In productivity in some cases is matching the 1800X or even the 2700X. In games in worst case is even with the 2700X and in most is ahead by a nice gap.
For better gaming you should get the 3700X for the 1700X replacement, but if you cant afford it, the 3600 is the second best choise.

I'd wait for new Ryzen 3. This is what I'm doing and I made my decision not long ago. Although I got 2700x.

i have to ask, do you have your proc overclocked? its very likely that you could hit 4.1ghz with a 1700x at 1.4v-1.45v. my current ryzen 5 1600x runs 4.2ghz at 1.45v. give it some juice and more volts and see where it will go. im pretty happy with mine, give yours a shot and see if it improves things for you.

I went from a Ryzen 7 1700 to a Ryzen 7 3800X and it's a huge difference. My system feels much more responsive somehow, hard to describe, but I didn't expect such a big improvement.
I'm still doubting my choice over the 3700X, even after all the fixes from AMD, as it doesn't seem to offer any significant real worlds performance advantages.
All the issues have been frustrating, but it seems like AMD and the board makers have ironed out all of that by now.
If you're looking at getting some faster RAM, I would highly recommend Patriot Viper Steel, as it's cheap and performs amazingly paired with Ryzen 3000.
