Ive been using these headphones for months now as a replacement for my much loved Sennheiser CX-300s. I listen to a mix of rock, metal and trance music and you are totally spot on with your review.

When i first bought these headphones, I was a little disappointed with the high end, the mids were pretty decent and the bass could be a little more punchy if you tweaked it with an EQ which the app i use has.

I prefer my CX-300's over the MA-350 but those are no longer in production. I will most likely get a set of hifiman RE-400's later on to see if that suits me better

:EDIT:

I decided i couldnt wait and purchased some RE-400's off a U.S ebay seller. there are no UK retailers.

Well I have the HiFiMan RE-400s here.... listening to some Japanese metalcore on my SGS3...

the clarity in the RE-400s compared to the MA-350s = no contest. the RE-400 wins hands down.

RE-400s have a better mids and highs but I find the highs still lacking in detail. But this could be because they need some burn in time.

the MA-350s love bass, but to them point where it can be overwhelming and drown everything else out and its hard to balance it out in the EQ.

where as the RE-400s are almost perfect. IMO they are almost perfectly balanced but it lacks that bass, though Id hardly call this a negative point. Its got just enough bass not to drown out the rest of the frequencies so it doesnt sound muddy or overdriven. with very little tweaking of the EQ I made it so there is a little punch to the bass but as a whole the RE-400s are a definite no no for bass heads.

As for which pair of headphones I like the most. well as much as i love the MA-350s the RE-400s are definitely high up on my list.

I let my playlist shuffle over the next week or so then I will probably come back and update my findings once these RE-400s have had time to settle down.

I have allsorts of genres on my playlists ranging from classical arrangements to rock, and from Techno/electronica to something more progressive and 'Djent'

Thanks for sharing your impressions! I think we share the same opinion on the two in-ears :)

Cheers,
Fred
