hmmmm! could be, i hit an avg of 50fps with my 9250, so it would seem that 180fps would be right with a 9800PRO

alrightly... as a jump from a oc 9200 @ 48fps to a 9800 180fps is a fair jump and wanted to make sure I didn't start to see numbers that don't belong

right you are: :toast:

EDIT: To the post above: The FPS on the rotating cube is higher because the cube takes only a small portion of the screen. If I played Counter Strike Source at the resoloution of the cube I would also be getting High FPS.

Umm the X800 was the series that was supposedly (and truly) twice the power of the 9800. I got about 200fps with my ultra-overclocked 9800 Pro (about 25-50mhz higher than the XT core and mem with a Zalman heatsink), so yeah that sounds right. My 6800gt got 450-500fps (overclocked to Ultra Extreme lol), so yeah ATItool lets those framerates fly with good cards

I have a 7800GT OC and it does not hit 350 and stay there while im in css.
As for ati tool...I have seen it in the mid 500s but most of the time it is a 100-200 lower than that. (@ 500/1.15Ghz [Faster than a 7800GTX by far, but -2/4pipes so...])

i don't think that the framerates in atitool is that much important, i think it's more a fast way to check if youre changes on youre speeds and timing improve the performance and check for artifacts....

Yea, it's kind of stupid for people to compare ATI tool FPS.

450-500...On an Nvidia 6800GT. Those are some astronomical numbers. I believe the 6800 is equivilent to an X800 XT? Am I right?

You're right but if you noticed ATItool is REALLY random with framerates. Sometimes I'll start it up after a game and it'll run 450fps on the 6800gt, and other times it'll run 200 or less. But 480 was my average when it was in a good mood lol.

You are right the numbers mean nothing at all, like 3d Mark 01, any high end card can kill the tests, so it becomes a cpu benchmark instead. (a little different I guess sence ATI toll is not a benchmark at all.)

Atitool isnt good for measuring framerates... it can vary from version to version and there are other factors involved... stick with a program designed for benching... just my opinoin...

my 1600 turned out to only be faster than my 9800 pro after bumping it up to 600 core
and I have one run with the 9800 in 3dmark 01 that I hit 17,294 allmost 500 faster than the 1600. but the 1600 has not liked my asus motherboard and corrently resides in my old soyo dragon which I have sold this friday so the 1600 may go with it and i will order the 6800 nivdia to see how it runs. but in all the 9800 has been a great card bought it 3 days after its release and it has never failed me hell I may jusy water cool it and see if it will go past 425 core

oh incase its of interest im hiting an avg of 202 fps on tool but I agree its not a bench mark

Actually the 1600 is a mid range card, the 9800 was a high end card, even though the x1600 is newer and has better technology (and is MUCH faster than old midrange cards like the 9600) it may not actually be faster than an old high end card.
