AMD announced its flagship graphics card for this generation of GPUs, the Radeon HD 7990. Although essentially a dual-GPU solution based on two 28 nm "Tahiti" chips, the card is touted to be different from the various HD 7990 "New Zealand" graphics cards launched in Q3-2012, in featuring significantly lower power draw, a 2-slot cooling solution that, according to AMD, is "whisper quiet," and the need for just two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. In comparison, most "New Zealand" cards required three power connectors, and triple-slot cooling solutions.

The Radeon HD 7990 uses a pair of 28 nm "Tahiti" GPUs with all components unlocked, featuring 2048 stream processors based on the Graphics CoreNext architecture (4096 in total), 128 TMUs (256 in total), 32 ROPs (64 in total), and the full 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. Each GPU holds 3 GB of memory totaling the card's memory amount to 6 GB. The GPUs feature clock speeds of 1000 MHz core, PowerTune with Boost, and a memory clock speed of 6.00 GHz, yielding 288 GB/s of memory bandwidth per GPU. The two GPU systems are tied to the system bus using a PLX PEX8747 48-lane PCI-Express 3.0 switch.

The new Radeon HD 7990 draws power from two PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include four mini-DisplayPort, and a dual-link DVI. The card can pair with any other Radeon HD 7900 series graphics card. It features dual-BIOS, letting you fall back to a failsafe BIOS, in case you botch up BIOS updates. With the Radeon HD 7990, AMD is giving away eight free games, including Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Crysis 3 Hunter Edition, Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider (2013), Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, and Deus Ex: Human Evolution. AMD is pricing the card on par with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 690, at $999.

Just saw the review. Disappointing AMD

Seems like still issues with Crossfire with whatever drivers Wizz was given for benchmarking.

Bold choice from AMD to price this card at the same price as the GTX Titan / GTX 690

It just can't compete, the hardware is there... drivers? Not quite.

I honestly saw this coming from a KM away, those issues have always been there and probably will continue to plague AMD atleast for some time.

This coming from a CFX(quad) user since the day it came out reach to 6990. Lots of years of troubles.

Only time ive ever run multi GPU was 2 GTX260s, and it was great, other then a little bit of stutter haha. To be expected though regardless of the GPUs. Still made Crysis 1 playable for me though :)

I rarely enjoyed multi GPU with AMD setups in the past years, when it (rarely) worked it was fantastic.

nVidia is so much better on this aspect, I'm actually enjoying my setup ATM and it's time to make up for the time I've wasted trying profiles with third party applications ;)

IMO a duel gpu card should cost less than 2 single cards,or atleast the same but sure as hell not 200$ more...

Oh and btw, you can pair this card with a Radeon HD 7950, HD 7970, and HD 7970 GHz Edition. We tested.

This is a pretty smart package with a slave GPU that can be deactivated when not needed. AMD's new drivers should put a smile on many gamers faces. If you have way too much money this is the GPU to own.

Games and Games

Never mind the card itself... what I liked is the fact that it comes with 8 games.

Imagine if GTX 690 and Titan came, with the price they cost today, with 8 nice games?

Dual GPU cards may be good; But if team Red or Team Green releases the first TRIPLE GPU on a single board then I would be impressed
