QNAP Systems, Inc. today updated QTS 4.0, Turbo NAS operating system, for its business-class Turbo NAS models, featuring advanced functions for SMB users, including 400TB scale-up solution, intelligent Storage Manager, flexible volume management with thin-provisioned volume supported, SSD cache, SMART data migration, VMware VAAI and Microsoft ODX support and more, and greatly enhancing the efficiency in storage management, expansion, data process, and management in virtualization environments.

"Our previous release of QTS 4.0 for home-class Turbo NAS models has been a great success with tremendous positive feedback from our users," said Tony Lu, product manager of QNAP. "Now we are pleased to bring forth the QTS 4.0 for QNAP's business-class Turbo NAS models that we believe will greatly benefit business applications of the Turbo NAS," added Lu.

400TB scale-up solution
The newly launched QNAP RAID expansion enclosures, REXP-1200U-RP and REXP-1600U-RP, are designed to expand the Turbo NAS storage capacity over 400TB raw capacity to cope with the growing data of businesses. "The storage expansion solution is economical and it helps businesses invest only for the storage capacity needed at initial setup, and have the flexibility to expand the storage capacity on demand," said Lu.

Flexible volume management
QTS 4.0 introduces the Storage Pool that allows IT administrators to aggregate multiple RAID groups of different levels as a big storage pool to flexibly utilize the storage capacity as a whole. In the Storage Pool, multiple volumes can be created, coupled with features including block-level iSCSI LUN, online capacity expansion, thin-provisioned volume, and space reclaim. Through the intuitive graphical interface, provided by QTS 4.0 Storage Manager, IT administrators can easily manage storage systems on a centralized platform.

Proactive data protection
QTS 4.0 provides enhanced features to secure important business data, including RAID Hot Spare and Global Hot Spare drives, SMART data migration, Time-Limited Error Recovery and Error Recovery Control, and advanced RAID read error recovery technology. The proactive data protection makes the Turbo NAS a reliable storage for businesses' mission-critical needs.

New virtualization experience
QNAP business-class Turbo NAS is a virtualization-ready storage solution supporting VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer. Advanced hypervisor offload features are supported, including VMware VAAI for iSCSI and NAS, and ODX in Microsoft Windows Server 2012. These hypervisor offload features brought by QTS 4.0 highly increase performance in the virtualization environment. Moreover, QNAP vSphere Client plug-in and QNAP SMI-S provider for Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) remarkably increase management productivity and efficiency.

Performance acceleration
QTS 4.0 supports SSD caching, which can greatly boost IOPS performance of volumes, and 10GbE network bandwidth, increasing operation efficiency for intensive database environments that require fast data transmission, such as data center or a virtualized IT environment.

The support of SMB 2.0 improves Microsoft Networking performance. Windows users will enjoy faster transmission speeds and read performance even though there are multiple concurrent users or in a high latency network environment such as VPN between two offices.

A well-rounded NAS system
Apart from these enhanced business features, QTS 4.0 provides versatile functions such as file synchronization with Qsync utility, cross-platform file sharing, comprehensive backup solutions with QNAP NetBak Replicator utility, Apple Time Machine support, Real-Time Remote Replication (RTRR), rsync and cloud storage support, and advanced privilege settings with Windows AD/ACL and LDAP, performing as a powerful and comprehensive Turbo NAS system.
