Alright TPU community, looking for a good monitor.

My trusty NEC Multisync LCD 1700V is starting to fail after 16 years of service due tobacklight or board are failing to illuminate the screen, have to disconnect power brick and reconnect to illuminate it at times.

I am using a Sapphire R9 290 VaporX which has DP and HDMI.

My requirements are as follows:

21-23" 1920x1200, 1440p, 2K-4K

Someone said at 8ms response they could see "Ghosting", I never had an issue with it in games and my monitor is a VGA LCD with 25ms response time. So I guess the faster the response time the better.

At least 75Hz refresh or better.

Prefer Display Port (tougher connectors)

Will most likely stick with VSYNC but freesync is optional.

Pretty good color gammut, good blacks/whites.

Good Viewing Angles, Ergonomic stand if possible.

$400.00 at the most.

Brands I am avoiding- ACER, AOC

black bezel

Any suggestions that match criteria are welcome.

My current monitor had a matte finish on the LCD itself, would a glossy be better for colors?

If you do 4k, you're going to want to use DisplayPort with the 290, otherwise you'll be stuck at 30Hz because HDMI on that card (like my 390,) is only 1.4.

Out of curiosity, why not LG? I just got a 27" 4k LG monitor with FreeSync for $350 and the thing seems pretty good so far. I have absolutely no complaints about it.

Just overall user experience hasn't been pleasent with them across many products of theirs, pc, phone, appliance related stuff.

I will be using DP myself anyway, one of my requirements in my original post. That's how my VGA monitor is working via passive adapter.

The only LG products I've owned are displays. I have a 48" in the living room that's 4k and this monitor now and both of them have been good so far (granted, I haven't owned the monitor for long.) I haven't owned an LG phone or mobile electronic device but, my personal observation is that appliances in general are a pain in the rear-end. I know a co-worker who has a 4k LG as well and has hasn't complained about it, at least not to me.

If anything, I would at least suggest looking into it. I would mention that I have two 4k monitors at work made by Acer and they're definitely worse than the LG when it comes to image quality. In fact every Acer 4k at work around where I sit has the same issue with flickering as well so, that's a brand I would be cautious of.

Someone said at 8ms response they could see "Ghosting", I never had an issue with it in games and my monitor is a VGA LCD with 25ms response time. So I guess the faster the response time the better.
Well, since you are not sensitive to image lag or ghosting (just as I am), then you'll be better off getting a decent 2K or 4K IPS display.
My Samsung U24E590D was just below $400 when I bought it, so this xmas I expect it to go on sale for $350 or even less. A larger 28" model was not much more expensive. I went with a smaller one due to desk space constraints.
Both monitors support FreeSync.

EDIT: scratch dat! :D
The new Quantum Dot display is already out, and it's in the same price range, and it's 1ms response time, and it's a friggin' 10-bit, and it's awesome.

Does it come in 23" at the most lol.

My only sensitivity is Refresh Rates, if its 60 or lower I get headaches.

seems like 28" is the smallest...
And 60Hz on any type of new panel feels a lot smoother than 75Hz on an old LCD with CCFL backlight. Most people get headaches from imperceptible backlight flicker, and not the low refresh rate.

75Hz helped a lot, didn't matter if LCD or CRT then lol

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
2K monitors.. I don't think you want one (2048x1080) as its a weird res. 2560x1440 or 4K is what I would choose. ;)

Don`t know how easily you cand return them, but i went thru 3 display models untill i got a U2713HM back in 2013. Now upgraded to a MG279Q 120Hz 1440p 27". My point is, make a purchase and see if it fits your needs, looking at specs for monitors and audio gear is a waste of time since people have different needs and perception.

True that, and even if it could would it be a good idea anyways.

Eww LG, good chance of crappy elec caps no thank you on top of that shoddy workmanship. but crappy caps are not the worsted as they could always be swapped out after the warranty as they use a lot of those lovely elite crappy brand.

I like gloss i believe it gives a better depth to the picture how ever keeping it clean can be a challenge, i find TV's having better viewing angles. My old ass Toshiba watchable from the side, not as if you would but it don't darken or discolor in anyway.

EDIT:

Best thing you can do when talking monitors\ TV's.

Even wal mart as they have a good return policy. Just make sure though as rules do change.

@eidairaman1 Why are you avoiding BenQ? I was going to recommend getting one. They make some of the best gaming monitors with great gaming features. I've got the 1080p BenQ XL2720Z and it's fantastic. You should see how fantastically blur-free my games look with the strobe on! There's the 1440p XL2730Z with FreeSync, too. Both those monitors are old models now, but they have newer equivalent versions out now.
