1GB 5770 1GB - what brand?

I want to buy friday a new GPU for my cousin (replacing a 2yo Palit 9600GSO 768Mb). For the best performance/price ratio i selected the ATI HD5770 1Gb DDR5 videocard, but i'm not sure what brand to choose...

1 - MSI - 168 Euro (215 USD)
2 - ASUS CuCore - 170 Euro (218 USD)
3 - Sapphire Vapor-X - 172 Euro (220 USD)
4 - Powercolor PCS+ - 165 Euro (211 USD)

The prices in Eastern-Europe is higher than in the US

STAY AWAY from the CuCore unless you want to buy a aftemarket cooler. The stock one is TERRIBLE.

Lowest cost possible is the PCS+ apparently, so get that. They are all good except for that Cucore which is ugly.

Sapphire for sure. They always had some quality parts. Never failed on me. So go for the Vapor-X. It has a fantastic cooler.

definitely this one, fully reference is great, the cooler is perfectly adequate (and exhausts hot air out of the case), and has onboard voltage controll to boot.

not to mention your free game and lifetime warranty, seems like you cant go wrong.

The problem with the stock CuCore cooler isn't so much design as finish. When I took mine apart there were large machining gouges on the base of the copper slug and the thermal paste was applied very poorly. I was able to lap out the gouging fairly easily and using TX-2 paste temps went from over 80C to around 68C after a break in period. With a moderate overclock of 925/1250 it gets up to 72C but unfortunately that's all the memory will do.

At any rate I would strongly advise against the CuCore as well, too much hassle and too little overclocking headroom. I got mine because it was the cheapest available after rebate ($130) but there are cheaper ones now if you want to go that route. Out of the ones you've listed I'd get the Vapor-X.

+1 on the reference, i choose sapphire, but if i were looking for best price performance honestly id buy a used reference card of ebay, sometimes there as cheap as 120-130 dollars if you keep checking back, im fairly confident the 5770's are solid cards at good temps i dont think the used ones are a bad choice, also reference exhausting air out of the case +1

i had to rma the second card back to XFX.i know how some people feel about doing this with them. i've read multiple threads on many forums saying the rma at XFX is poor. i guess i got lucky cause not only did i rma the second card once, they sent another one back in less than two weeks.i tried the one sent back only to make the mistake of not trying it on another pc.sent the same one back again.two weeks later got another one and works just fine. two rma's in one month from XFX. +1 for XFX. :rockout:
