This is just a rant.

2 months ago I bought a 1650 super gaming X. Yesterday I finished the build with a new power supply. (500w be quiet gold unit)
Yesterday was spent installing windows 10 and trying to find my way around it. I was still using win7.
Today I get up, watch some videos, go to the kitchen to make some food, and come back to see a black screen. Power LED was still on and fans were still spinning.
Reset it only to find it won't post.
An hour later and after many F bombs I figured out it was the GPU. I'm typing this with my old card.

Newegg won't help as it's outside of their measly 30 day return policy. Mark my words. They won't see another penny from me.
MSI won't cover shipping so to RMA this 200$ card would cost me $40 after the 1.5 hour drive to the nearest UPS store and shipping it across the country. Then I'd probably get sent another broken card anyway.

Now I get to see if my new PSU kills my old card and in the mean time save up for another video card which I waited 5 years to get. Joy.

Not that it makes you feel any better.....

I do not know a manufacturer that does cover shipping.

If you go online, you can set the card up for a pickup through just about any courier. UPS, USPS, FedEx, they all do it.

And most US online retailers(and a lot of physical stores) don't take returns after 30 days either. It's not just Newegg.

I've been able to get Asus to send me a pre-paid shipping label for RMA's before, but never had any dealings with MSI. Did you try contacting them or just read up the RMA instructions, sometimes if you contact them they will work with you....sometimes :toast: best of luck with RMA

Also helps to be polite even under the circumstances and explain the situation ;)

Thank god for the com com in New Zealand that 30 day BS wouldn't wash here it's a min of 12 months or for the specified manufacturers warranty period whichever is the longer of the two and we get to choose the remedy either Repair, Replacement or Refund and they have to cover shipping there and back you yanks get really giped in some areas of warranty but make up for it in cheaper prices

would cost me $40 after the 1.5 hour drive to the nearest UPS store
Living in the boons seems like a personal choice and I'd be pissed if I had to drive 3 hours just to get a package shipped too. Fuel would probably cost more than shipping it. This sounds like it would be a lot less painful if the UPS store was only 3 minutes down the road like it is for me.

I think this really depends on where you live. I don't think they'll pick up packages from anywhere.

i don't get it.

"return policy" means for me "i don't like this card.. i give it back (for a 30 day time period)

but any warranty claim is made over the store and not with the manufacturer.. at least in europe.
when my GPU dies after 18 months. i go to the store where i bought it, slap it on the table and get my money back, a new one or a repair.

That's not how it works in the US. The warranty is from the manufacturer and you have to deal with the manufacturer to get something replaced or fixed under warranty.

It depends on the manufacturer, some have direct support but some not. If not, I have to communicate with the dealer where I bought it.

At least it´s the situation here in Germany.

Here in the US you can buy optional protections that go well beyond the 30 days or even past the manufacturers warranty period.
After that the cost is still lower than most countries.
I bought a 2 year extended (from warranty end date) no shipping cost insurance package for my $800 tv for $24.99.
That gives me 5 years 100% protection with $0 in extra costs.

Newegg also has these options but nobody wants to spend the extra $5-$10

Yeah here the commerce commission says an electronic device must last for a certain amount of time. Electronics should last for a minimum of 5yrs (not including damage from stupidity) and that extended warranties are a load of rip off bollocks because you're covered under the consumer guarantees act many of our fine retailers have found themselves in the shit for not telling customers of their rights under the Consumer Guarantees act and selling extended warranties like they have meaning here
