2 Questions, 1 game (Battlefield 2042)

Greetings Battlefield maniacs (and others). Best game in the world.... actually its the only franchise I keep up with.

Battlefield 2042 on PC:

1. What is the difference between the £50 standard, £80 Gold and £100 Ultimate editions?

2. I've already got an account with Origin, Steam and Epic. Any reason to pick one platform over the other?

No - Because buying it on steam will require you to have an EA origin account to play it anyway. Its just more faff - Buy it on Origin.

I actually bought it on Steam for the return system. It's really cool because it shows up in steam and origins I can launch it from either one. Of course if I launch it from steam it just opens origins, but I have steam on anyway. Plus, steams return system is great.

thanks guys. I take it the standard edition is pretty much all you need to access all maps, usual weapons, etc etc.... nothing missing in terms of the core elements of the game. I couldn't see anything beneficial going with the gold/ultimate edition, well not to my requirement anyway. Unless I'm missing the bigger picture here?? After all it's a £30 premium above the standard edition for Gold... your thoughts?

For the second Q, I guess Origin/Stream for me then.

I would buy it directly though origin due tot he fact if steam has it's down time to what ever reason you be able to play your game still.

Exactly. You just need to check the ratings section on steam of some of these games, most negative ratings are for DRM issues.

That's why I buy games in (or for = key reseller) their own store. Another benefit, when Steam is down I still can play elsewhere.

EA games = Origin, Ubisoft games = UPlay, Rockstar games = Rockstar Games Launcher, Blizzard games = Battle.net, etc. ...

On a side note my friend bought it on Origins and on day one he couldn't play it due to their drm.. lol He installed it and did not realize he was on his VPN then noticed he installed it on a HDD and not his SSD. So, he uninstalled it then turned his VPN off. He goes to install it then Origins gives him an error about he can't install it on multiple devices. lol So you thinking just turn your VPN back on and reinstall it.. Nope! haha Because he tried to install it on his home IP they put him on lock down.

He contacted EA support and they tell him there is nothing they can do about it. They have a 24 hour cool down on IP's.. lol wtf.. I have never had this issue with Steam. Also, I use to be a die hard buy it straight from Origins because it's a origins game, but obviously no one in here saying just buy it on origins have never had to use EA support.. haha it's horrible. Also, just to add I originally bought the standard game.. I had preloaded it. So, I refunded my original game and then bought the Gold edition and was playing within a couple of hours on the first early access day.. Now that's great support.

Ok i think I missed the part where it is said installing on steam means the game is also accessible via Origin. Correct? If yes, more the reason to opt for steam where I have my main 3 other games too.

Yep. Origin and EA are both abominations. I seriously stick to the program: the only thing I play on that platform is Apex. Because its free. You just know sooner or later bugs will hit you and you're left swimming. What's most telling about Origin is that its in fact just a in-framed webpage. You can see that by the way it loads as you fire it up - and components may or may not load timely depending on weather, the color of your socks, or whatever else, I don't know.

Had two experiences on Origin that reinforced that idea...
1. I wanted to buy a battle pass to support Apex for just being decent enough. 10 eur or something. Had to jump through hoops because the Origin setup at the time wasn't GDPR proof (?), my details could not get validated (or a message of that nature, is what I got) even if the account has existed for years, I got stuck in some weird hole between half finished code and the intent to buy and never got to my battle pass. Just was unable to transfer funds over any payment service. So apparently EA didn't want my money, fine.

2. Got kicked into a 'safety feature' which basically meant I could log in to Origin after password recovery, but then Apex the game didn't allow me on any server because I was apparently flagged as a hacker.

That was it. The service is just straight up untrustworthy, as is the company. I guess the company culture bled into the actual product proper.

• 4 New Specialists (1 per Season of the Year 1 Pass)
• 4 Battle Passes (1 per Season of the Year 1 Pass)
• 3 Epic Skin Bundles (”Blistered Earth”, ”Tempest”, and ”Cold Blood”)

I get the skin bundles which i'm not interested in but what are these 4 battle passes + 4 new specialists? I kinda get the 4 specialist thing (assuming these are additional class systems) but are we missing out on anything significant if going with the standard edition?

and whats with these "1 per season" of the year 1 pass. It would be nice if the games info page could clearly explain everything.

The battle passes will likely be early unlock/access to weapons. In order to fill 128-player servers, they can't afford to divide players up again into paid DLC's like the previous battlefields.

If you can wait a couple months this game will probably be on sale. It's "a fun shooter" but not in a good place as far as a battlefield game goes.

It's not a fun shooter at all. 360 degree incoming vehicular and enemy small arms fire means instant death for infantry 99% unless you manage to evade the hackers to the periphery of the maps. It's only fun if you can operate the vehicles well and stay alive long enough to complete or contribute to objectives. A fun shooter is CODMW2019, where your lone-wolf FPS skills do count (streaks be damned).
