2 Questions about overclocking. Any help appreciated

1, Okay I want to OC my CPU in the Bios but the FSB bit is greyed out, I know my mobo isnt capable of a lot, but I am only looking at pushing it upto 280FSB. I read somewhere that the Gfx card could prevent you from OCing, as well as usb devices, should I try it with my onboard VGA and unplug all usb's then revert back after?

2, I was wondering whether it is possible to mod the BIOS for a 2600XT (in my specs) to higher clock speeds so I don't have to use the catalyst overdrive feature.

Any help for either or both appreciated,

Here is a link to the support page for your board. Have you looked in your manual to see if it supports overclocking? The problem with some budget boards like this is these bios options are not available.

I just looked at the manual for your board. Look for the "Fox Intelligent Stepping" section in the bios. This is where you should be able to change your fsb.

Thing is, there is no intelligent stepping in the bios. i have used the fox one program though which does overclocking in Windows, this worked fine at getting the CPU to 280FSB and mem to 700 (hence my specs) but what bugs me is that it resets itself to default after about 3 reboots. So I wanted a way to do it in the bios rather than software based. Just trying to work out if others have had things like usb and gfx cards blocking the OC option, maybe on others mobo's?

i dont think what u are suggesting is possible.. things lke grafix cards dont "grey" out bios fsb options.. they are there or not there..

have u considered the possibility u are running a little too fast and that might be the reason things revert back to safe defaults every so often..

Actually I can`t think of one apart from the obvious (clockgen,setfsb). Does neone know one that allows you to keep the overclock setting ?

Well I tried clockgen couldnt get that to work and according to official site it is unsupported atm. And I also tried rightmark's clock tool but I couldnt get that to work unless I was doing it wrong :confused:
