Seems to me you did a fine job of covering products likely to be of interest here. Look forward to your aftershow article.

China is having a week-long holiday right now, so I don't expect FiiO to reply to my interview style questions anytime soon. Hopefully sooner than later though!

Is China like the EU and UK where everyone is promised like 28 days vacation, and as an American I have been lied to my entire life?

Nope, normally people get 5 vacation days and few more for those who have worked for longer like 10+ years. The week long holiday right now is for their national holiday and it's really 3 public holidays with other days off made up of a weekend and having to work on a different weekend instead

the concerto link is broken. its

Haha thru URL and product page initially had a typo which I told them about. They had fixed the latter, but I didn't expect the link to get updated too. Thanks for letting me know, I've corrected it in the article now.

Very cool summary of some high end stuff I will never be able to try... I wish I was to attend such a show.
On a side note, the paragraphs are so crammed with words... They could use a little spacing and tidying up.

Interesting to see portable CD players make a comeback in 2024. If only they tried to replicate the size and design of a modern Discman, not the one from 1984.

I spoke to some brands about the resurgence of portable CD players, one interesting reason given is that the local audiophiles in China seem to have made it a trend to support music artists by purchasing CDs as opposed to paying for streaming services. Some also seem to have become jaded against streaming in general, be it with some albums/songs being made not available with short notice or simply preferring to own a local copy.

Yeah it makes sense, especially when FLAC downloads aren't often available when purchasing albums online.

*Sony rises from the darkness, surrounded by clouds of thick dust*: Announcing MiniBlu-RayMan portable player, coming in 2026!
(Mini Blu-ray Man being a cool mascot and everything)(Compatible with MiniDVD and MiniCD).

Joking aside, hope they do make the disk players (SD Card capability would be neat too!) and stick to the AA or 4xAAA batteries instead of lithium batteries. One of the best aspects for me already back in the early '00s was that quality 2100~2400mAh rechargeable batteries existed and already allowed for close to 8h of constant play. Carrying an extra pair or two was easy and inexpensive.
To. This. Day. Those. Power. On.
