2070 Super FE, too loud on idle, worth trying DEV ID mismatched vbios ?

Hello everyone, I hope all of you are doing alright with the covid thing happening.

Well, I have a 2070 super FE which I love.. in my system. I picked it up on bestbuy due to price (499) and looks/design. It works wonderfully it's quiet during gaming ..... BUT, in idle
it's just loud compared to everything else. I downloaded EVGA tool to lower fan speed but it's locked to 41% tried everything. Looking up on internet I found that if you flash a custom RTX vbios you can get control for the fanspeed using NVFLASH however Nvidia FE's device id is different to any other custom RTX card. I found here on tech power a hacked tool that bypasses device id mismatch error, allowing the tool to force flash a custom VBIOS
Did anyone tried with success? I don't want to screw my beautiful card, I love but. I built a quiet system and my rtx card is the only thing making noise . Thanks in advance

My advice is don't force flash a mismatched i.d. BIOS.

Before resorting to bios flashing, why not try a custom fan profile [2d] in Afterburner or Precision???

As he said, the MINIMUM fan speed is 41% and his problem is while idle, not under load.

Most of you have not realized that this is an FE card. FE cards do not have idle fan stop, and cannot go below their idle 40%-ish fan speed. That's just how they are designed. This is not something tinkering with Afterburner will solve. At this point in time, it's hardly a secret, and complaining about it really just shows the lack of research having been completed prior to purchase.

Only possible way around it is to fuck with flashing AIBs' vBIOSes for other 2070 Super cards...

It could be worse; my 2060 Super idles at 1500rpm as it's the shorter FE design, and also has coil whine. I've long since grown accustomed to either of the noises.

There we go. This is exactly why it was mentioned earlier the minimum speed is ~41%. It doesn't go any lower with software.... the idle temperature doesn't matter as that 40-ish% is as low as it goes without other modifications.

I'd be nervous as hell to flash that card. I'd rather spend another $80 on an aftermarket cooler or GPU AIO...

I've been very tempted by the design to be honest, i did a research and saw teardown videos (Really hard to teardown for maintenance), its a very good card, just as expected but, i expected to be able to lower the default speed, but i already had it installed before i discovered this, should have researched more. The card has 3 year warranty so i guess its worth keeping that. My case is just next to me, i have all be quiet fans, whisper quiet system, my 2070 super is the only thing breaking the silence. Gotta live with it 'till i purchase another card.
I did protect off command to try the software, and then protecton, that doesnt void anything, does it?

The FE design is extremely sturdy, I'll give it that. That was my chief consideration for getting one. Good quality fans, runs pretty cool (the larger ones, 2070S/2080) and should last just fine until 3 years is up.

If NVFlash works anything like most automobiles' ECUs and phones' bootloaders do, you'd have to actually flash something to trip the counter, after which the record is permanent. Protectoff just lists the GPUs and prepares for flashing, doesn't it?

Fair point. Yes it's pretty cool, very good GPU. Only complained about the noise on idle. Used to have a 5700xt which I hated because of issues I had with it but the model I owned had zero rpm mode, on idle computer seemed turned off. That was nice. That's the only thing I miss, everything else I can't look back.
It sound logical the fact of the protectoff on command. So I think ill leave it the way it is, at least it has no issues.

For those who asked, the card runs at 28-29c at idle (32db 1500rpm) and around 71c on maximum load (around 1800 RPM), in load it's very quiet that's impressive. And runs cool. Maximum I've seen once was 74c.
