2080FE or 2080 SUPER

Getting an itch,
it seems the newer(supers) over clock just over the original 2080FE. I assume the FE cards will come down in price after the Supers hit the market(or have they already)? Suggestions........

I like seeing they made a full die TU104. With that said I think I'll only buy full die cards from now on like the TU106 original 2070 and now the 2080 Super. I've been waiting for the full die TU104.

Yeah it is, I just figure with the Super coming out the FE might go down in price? Plus I got an Itch as the post said, lol

So for the 5-7% less, couldn't I buy an 2080 n clock it to the 5-7% losses? I guess I'm just looking for justification to BUY something new, my 1080 is a Great card. I'll think twice in a few days when the rent is due n prolly not buy one but I was looking..............

I see many people like to assume that. If you're talking about the second-hand market, you're right. But the 2080 is being discontinued. You could get lucky and find a stock clearance, but other than that, no more new 2080s.

2080 has 4% less shaders than 2080S. This is the part you cannot make up with overclocking. The other bit is 15.5GT/s VRAM on 2080S (compared to 14GT/s on normal 2080). VRAM on 2080 usually clocks to the neightborhood of 15.5GT/s but it is not guaranteed and there has not been much talk about whether faster memory on 2080S clocks considerably higher.

Normal 2080 can get much closer than the stock 7-8% but there are still inherent differences that will leave 2080S a few percent ahead.

40$ isn't really enough of a savings over a base 2080 super though. Touring also requires excellent cooling to maintain boost speeds I wouldn't bother with anything but a mid tier GPU with a decent power limit.

It's the power limit which limits the overclocking on Turing GPUs..

It’s actually an architectural and voltage limitation. Power limits don’t really affect it too harshly, depending on which you get, or course.

I would just get the Super. It’s not a big enough performance gap to worry about it. So you OC 10 MHz less. Will you even notice it? Nope. Even 50 MHz less, you might drop a frame per second at worst.

It's still a reference board with a slightly higher power limit and much better cooling.

If I was buying for myself I would probably go with a FTW3 model though.

Totally forgettable release IMO given the price increase, and the 2080 wasn't a good deal to begin with. The 2070S is a whole lot better, and still not 'great' and its just a 30-35% jump from a 1080 which is meagre. Perf/$ is shit across the whole range.

Avoid in full capital. Just wait for 7nm. Keep scratching the itch for a while longer, at some point skin goes red and you won't feel a thing. I'm in the same boat as you... this 1080 is still going just fine.

Neah, I only buy mid-range, I don't blow that kind of $$$ on a video card. I was just saying that line is what has made the most sense for me (currently running EVGA's 1060 SC).
And yes, the regular 2080* is discontinued. If you wait and you're lucky, you'll get a clearance deal; if you wait and are unlucky, it will simply vanish.

*2080FE is just the reference model, all 2080 models will be replaced by their Super replacements

It depends on how much that boost in performance means to you with the Super Edition. Prices might drop a little more on the regular 2080s but like someone said, when they are gone they are gone.

I’d get the Super over the original 2080. The Samsung memory on the Super can be clocked up to and likely past 18Gbps.
