During our last stay at CES, QNAP surprised us with the TBS-453A NAS, an incredibly small NAS since it only takes M.2 SSDs. While not a NAS for the average user, it does have some really cool features we are going to explore in this review.

Not even 10GigE and/or LACP support? For only 1GigE connection speeds, M.2 SSDs seem to be a bit overkill to me. They should've used mSATA SSDs instead as they are smaller and then put twice as much sockets in there.
Even if this unit is expandable, more storage could never hurt.

Amazing review @crmaris , don't think I've ever seen anything so thorough. Interesting take on the memory, I've got a TS-253 Pro with the upgraded 8GB memory, and notice some of the same things you saw with this one:

They charge WAY too much for memory upgrades
The boot time is excruciatingly long! On a positive note, I only need to do it on occasion.

Other than that, I wouldn't consider any other make for a NAS unit, the thing is "brimming" with features and they work! Great support too.
