I ran a 7970 and an FX8350 with the older H220 kit and an extra 120mm rad with no issues.

In your case I would try just the cooler first and add the extra rad if the temps are a little too high for you.

Not too much but it spent its time running 24/7 at full load on cpu and gpu while crunching and folding.

Can you fit the H240-X2 or H320-X2? They may give you a little more performance vs adding an extra rad.

i know they can but my case is the corsair 230t! i already know that i have to place the fans on the outside with the h220-x2 and i also was planning on using the cryorig 2200rpm performance fans for more static pressure.

I've been running the older H220 with an extra 120MM rad for almost 2 years now with no issues. Overclocked 4770 and R9 290!

but my case is the corsair 230t!
That Swiftech would be a tough fit for that case.

I would recommend a 120mm AIO like a Corsair H80/H80i or a premium air cooler like a Noctua U14 for your cpu. I run an overclocked 2600k system with a U14 in a 230T and the temps are pretty awesome. The 980Ti should run fine w/o going to water cooling.

When gaming its usually in the low 60's. Gets the job done and has been fairly reliable

I know that the noctua nh d15 will do well for the cpu... and the gpu at stock clocks running gtav at 1080p will hit 70c+. I know that i would have to place the fans on top of the case but that's ok. The H80i performs worst than the d15 and it's not upgradable.

That's really cool that the cooler works as advertised. I saw some reviews on the new ones that the reservoir cracks easily.

The first Hxxx X2's had a seal issue on the windows and some leaked. This is no longer happening.

How thick is the 120mm rad?

Really? So it would be safe to pull the trigger on it, because i rather it than the AIOs.
