Won't happen even in DX12 I guess. Sell the R9 280X till it hasn't kicked the bucket.

Crossfire doesn't like dissimilar cards.
You can multigpu using a DirectX12 game that supports it, which is basically AoTS, and that's all.

You will need another Rx 480 for crossfire to work. Or another 280x
