Hello to all,
yesterday I was bench-marking my new rig.I first tried 3Dmark, everything was okay then furmark again its was good but when I tried on heaven benchmark and put settings to extreme my pc sounds distorted and stuttered constantly at very high volume and pc was hanged.
I was afraid and quickly switched off from electric supply.
Then restarted my pc but nothing happened.
Light came on, gpu on, fan moving, motherboard standby light was on but mobo was unable to light up/powered usb devices like keyboard/mouse and no display on monitor.
I think I fried my mobo or some of its ICs. Then I brought it to local shop from where I purchased all these things(gpu, psu, mobo etc).
He said it was due to my Air cpu cooler which is Deepcool silent assassin 2.
He added that heatsink of cooler heated the nearest ICs or some small electrical components on mobo.
So, he advice me not to use that cooler as air cooler fried/heated mobo's ICs that are below their heatsinks or RAM also or nearest part of it.
Is this true guys?
He said my mobo is not applicable to bear that kind of heat and only gaming mobo or mobo with onboard heat prevented things is suited for cpu air cooler.
So, now what guys should I replace that mobo or reomve cooler?
What he said was true?
Motherboard is in repairable condition he said.
That's okay but should I use it(cpu cooler) again on mobo?

Does furmark still have that warning that says something like "this will kill your computer"?

Pull out your videocard and see if the computer will start up using on board GPU.

The number of times I have warned people not to use FurMark as it can damage GPUs.

I wish TechPowerUp would stop using it for their reviews as it sets a bad example and makes people think it is ok to use.

But I think It was not furmark. It happened when I executed heavens benchmark.
Is it possible that i fried up my GPU?

You need to try your GPU in another PC to test it.

As to FurMark this is a totally useless piece of software that can damage your GPU so it is best avoided.

A lot of GPUs can detect when it is being used and will throttle making any results obtained totally useless.

An easy way to test is to remove the GPU add in card from the system and see if the computer will start up using the on board video.

@prasoooon Did that guy at the shop test the motherboard himself?
Is this the board (from your system specs) you are using?
DZ68DB_compeve__3.jpg

It does have VRM on the weak side and caps are very close to the socket ... overall, there is not much room around the socket, it is quite possible that one of the pipes was almost touching a capacitor:

Those pipes go really wide at the base of a heatsink.

Please help anybody,
I am in big trouble now.
Before this incident my gpu n cpu idlw temp was 39-42c and 38-40c temp but now after mobo repaired(problem was some ic burnt so replaced), everthing seems fine but idle temp now changed for gpu to 55-60c(yes that hot) and cpu to 45-50c.(when gpu fan turned off).
Then I tuned gpu fan to 60% manually then temp became stable ie. 40c at idle. But no problem while gaming all thing was same as before as gpu fan n cooler helped by moving.
So please can anyone .....please this is important for me....can anyone knows whats going on here.
Should I replace my gpu?
Or buy another mobo?
I don't even know how it happened? I checked everything, all are configured as before perfectly placed and nicely done.
