Graphics card dead?

Hello,

I have an issue with my laptop(ASUS X550JX), it seems like it only using the integrated graphics card(Intel HD 4600). Windows 8.1 is freshly installed, with all drivers up to date. If I check it in the device manager both graphic cards are listed without any error signs.

But any game or vga test can only be launched with the integrated graphics card, if I try it with the dedicated vga a black screen turns on for a second then exits the app. In dxdiag only shows the hd 4600 under the display tab.

Probably have to turn off the onboard graphic card in the bios, or select the dedicated card as the primary.

Thank you for the answer! Do I have to flash the BIOS/VBIOS? I couldn't find any settings related to that in my current version of BIOS.

@vbeverneky you can force your computer to run on nvidia gpu

right click on the desktop and open the nvidia control panel

click on manage 3D settings , click program settings. select the games you wanted to run and select nvidia gpu.

@vbeverneky you can force your computer to run on nvidia gpu

right click on the desktop and open the nvidia control panel

click on manage 3D settings , click program settings. select the games you wanted to run and select nvidia gpu.

Thanks! Yes, I know about this, but seems like the gpu is not turned on or something, I only get a black screen for a few seconds then exits the application. But after a reboot I checked GPU-Z stats again and all the information were there for like 5 seconds, not "0" like in the image I posted.

There isn't much to do, I am afraid.

Having owned numerous laptops with dedicated GPUs for a long time, when d-GPU calls it a day, that's it. Reinstalling windows is an option that is unlikely to work. Opening up the laptop and giving it a cleaning and repaste is also an option that is, again, unlikely to work.

I've found that laptop with just intel HD is the best combination for stability.

Sounds like the GPU is toast, is it removable or soldered on?

Too quick. Try another driver from another source

And are you sure its not set to multiple displays. Check the properties

Never hurts just to double check the Device Manager and see if the GPU is even being detected. Under Display Adapters it should hopefully show 2 GPUs; the Intel one and your dedicated GPU.

The symptoms that OP is experiencing is common for Nvidia Optimus dying(bud) gpu.

Maybe disable the power saving mode ?

try older driver maybe that helps - newest driver seems to be extremly bugged if you read nvidia forums

Thank you all for your replies. It's out of warranty so I left it in a pc repair store, wonder if they gonna scam me tho, you can never know in east europe.
