Hello, I have a GTX 550 ti i want to use, some issues i am noticing. This is my PSU in the Dell Optiplex 780

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/235Watt-Original-PW116-For-Dell-Optiplex_60387835209.html

Sucks i know. These are the 2 extra PSU's i have:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153023

Here's the problem, my MB
http://www.capital-remarketing.com/...b33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/t/items_200dy.jpg

This MB is actually supposely better than my Dell 745 MB, It even uses DDR3 Memory, but the hell --> 1 x 24-pin mini atx power connector it uses that. So i can't use the Thermaltake 24 pin connector on it, its to large. Any ideas?

..........................................

My other question, can i use this on my MB
http://www.ebay.com/p/Rocketfish-PCI-Express-USB-3-0-Card-Rf-p2usb3-2-Port/1100039650

I ask, because if you notice on the MB, there's too white PCI slots, but one is longer than the other and looks different, so i was wondering could i place the PCI express card on one of them maybe in the middle ?

Thanks. :)

Well that answers my second question, can't use the pci express 3.0 usb card. Thanks.

if your PC is truly a Dell SFF you have more problems than you know, that GPU will never fit.

Another bitch when it comes to upgrading Dell OEM components is the proprietary plugs other than the 24 pin that you've already noticed like the header plugs for the front panel controls ( at least in the newer OptiPlex they are )if you haven't already noticed they're different too, their not standard I went this route a couple years ago and decided against it . When it comes to upgrading dell OEM PCs your best bet is to replace the motherboard entirely, or the whole PC .in my opinion it was just too much of a headache but I wish you good luck

Hell yea, thanks :)

I have this card sitting in the Dell 745SFF
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133383
It also fits on my Dell 780. All you have to do is removed fan, remove the dual slot piece, and rip off the back panel where the card is, and it fits perfectly lol.

True, but with alot of patience, just shift stuff around, ripped off stuff and you're good to go. :)

Yeah it certainly is possible I just wasn't willing to go to the lengths that would've made it possible

I could make a horse fit in a 50 gallon drum if I had to, I'd just need a very large blender and a big saw ;)

As long as everything physically fits, you might be able to pick up a SATA power splitter and a SATA to 6-pin PCIe adapter, but that's going to put a pretty heavy strain on the splitter and PSU. Specs say the 550 Ti has a 116W maximum power draw. Theoretically, 75w should come from the PCIe slot and the remaining 41w or so should come from the 6-pin, but you'll be running your PSU at maximum capacity, if not over.

I suspect the card is mounted sideways in the case.

I hate to recommend spending more money, but you might as well just buy a slightly newer card that doesn't require external power. My computer at work here has an OEM GeForce GTX 745 (or perhaps a GTX 750 non-Ti) that you should be able to pick up for not much money. Should be just as fast as the GTX 550 Ti and it won't need any of this power modification to work.

Well all i plan to buy now is a usb 3.0 hub, and the item that dorsetknob recommended. An the 780 will be set :) My chip is a e8400. So the card should work just fine with it. Both desktops are flat down on the table, card is in tight and perfectly fit it. BTW, i don't think the draw power isn't so bad, i was using one of the PSU i have 430 w in my old desktop with the 550 ti and lots of other stuff hooked up to it and everything ran smooth as butter. But i had a q6600 back then. I also plan to add a e7500 to replace the pentium D 925 which is in the 745 with the 550 ti. I'm only using this 780 until i am able to buy a i7 , full desktop from frys in about 3 months. I'm moving atm, so I'm on a tight budget.

One interesting thing i did notice though, there's a huge bottleneck with the pentium d 925 and 550 ti, but when i add a sound card( creative sound blaster ), it seemed to have freed up a great deal of the bottleneck which was happening and make things much smoother. I think i remember finding that out years ago about adding a sound card helps performance or something.

Quick question, would the e7600 be the best upgrade to dell 745?
I guess any cpu will work just make sure it has the same FSB right, 1066? and 45nm?

GENERALY NO it has to be supported by bios on the Motherboard ( there are Exceptions such as Microcode injecting to un offically updating the Bios)

E7600 (3M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
E8400 (6M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

If i had to chose between those 2 i would go for the E8400 and the Bigger cache
If your board supports it
the extreemly smaler lower speed you will not notice

E8400 doesn't work on it, tried it already, unless you know something idk and i am able to run it on a MB that only supports 1066 FBS, because when i put in the 745, it doesn't start up and the latest bios is on it. I was wondering if i downgraded to a bio that reads: New Micro Code for Conroe-L A1, patch 32 * Added support for Extended Model and Extended Family Intel CPU's <---------------
This is the link
http://www.filehungry.com/product/drivers/bios_&_system_updates/dell_optiplex_745_system_bios_2_3_1/
It will seem pointless to downgrade from the 2.6.6 unless the 2.6.6. removes support for conroe's and the lastest intel chips. It doesn't say what extended model of intel cpus though

The last bio i was able to find and have install on the 745 is something title HEIDEN 2.6.6 and it doesn't say what fixes or enhacments it does, all i know the e8400 doesn't work / load up with it in the MB, i was told because the e8400 is 1333 and it won't boot up using a MB that allows only 1066.

As for the MB, this is it right here: It supposedly only allows 1066 FSB.
http://microdream.co.uk/gx297-0gx29...herboard.html#product_tabs_description_tabbed

Keep in mind, the Q6700 and Q6600 works on that MB, / Dell 745, i was just going to upgrade the dell to a e7500(its cheaper), just wanted to make sure. But if you know something idk about how to make the e8400 work on that MB/ 745, that would be great. I have two e8400's now anyway, I'm using one in the Dell 780.

All good, looking at some cpus that should work is the e6700 , or q6600/q6700 , they all are 65nm. I am curious would 1333 that is 65nm work on my computer though. But to be on the safe side, i will buy the quads and finest the cheapest one on ebay.

I would say no.
You can look up the Motherboard and it's specifications, it will probably tell you that 1066FSB is the highest it will support.

Guys, i think something is wrong with my Computer, i have 2 e8400's and i tested them both and the same issues.

First in cpu it never shows 3ghz, always below it
https://s26.postimg.org/y7wz0xsyh/fixsecond.jpg

Second, in the game the core speed is below 3ghz, it jumps back and forth to 2.9ghz to 1.9ghz, it doesn't seem to be running at full speed and no i don't have speed step on.
https://s26.postimg.org/658zttluh/3rd1.jpg

Also another thing i notice, using the latest intel drivers, the amount of memory is 1695MB, thus dedicated video memory is 64mb, system memory is 0, and shared system memory is 1631. This is the strange thing, when i downgrade to a older driver, vista drivers, the amount of memory increase from 1695 to 1795 and the dedicated video memory is 64mb, but the system memory is 30+ and the system memory is 1659. Is something overall going on with my computer and drivers?

Update: yea something is really wrong, i have 10 programs open and a game running , and the core speed is stuck at 1999mhz lol

That's fairly normal. It's not uncommon for FSB/BCLK to run just slightly below (or sometimes slightly above) what it's set for.
Second, in the game the core speed is below 3ghz, it jumps back and forth to 2.9ghz to 1.9ghz, it doesn't seem to be running at full speed and no i don't have speed step on.
Hmm. Even with EIST off, Windows might have some control over power saving. If you're concerned, it might be worth checking your power plan settings (see below) to see if setting the minimum processor state to 100% to see if it stays at 3GHz.
As long as it stays at ~3GHz under load (benchmark/stress test), I wouldn't be concerned at all about it. If it doesn't, check your CPU temperatures under load and make sure it's not getting too hot (80c ish?)
