23" LCD Monitor Help

Hey guys, I love my Acer 22" widescreen, it's been amazing to say the least. The Acer 19" widescreen LCD I had before that (currently the fiance's) has also been great and dependable. But she has decided she wants a larger monitor. So this is my time to make a small upgrade....now I'm on a tight budget, preferrably 200 or less. I have considered getting another 22", but I wouldn't mind having a monitor capable of higher resolutions though. So I want some input about the 23" LCD's out there, they seem to have a decent value, I paid 199.99 shipped for my current 22" a long time ago, it has a native resolution of 1680x1050, which has been pretty decent for gaming imo.

These 23" LCD's have a native res of 1920x1080, which is cool for the HD viewing abilities my current monitor doesn't have, I'm just hoping the resolution doesn't kill the font size too horridly. I'm also hoping my GTX260 will handle it just fine..1680x1050 has been a breeze for it, but I'm sure there would be a few less games I could play while folding at that resolution.

So if you have a suggestion, please post up some links. I prefer Acer mostly due to the fact, 2-for-2 have had no dead pixels, issues, failures, etc. I would be using DVI, so nothing crazy there.

Here are some I am currently viewing, I would like to make a decision soon, so please post up some recommendations, atm I'm looking at the Acer X233Hbid, it's 189.99 shipped, looks decent...though the Acer H233Hbmid looks good, but is a tad overbudget at 209.99 shipped...and I'm not sure what the true differences are. So I'm hoping to gain some insight from users using these and larger, and possibly some more info for a better educated decision. I've been reading a lot of articles and such...now I want some consumer suggestions.

Oh and any issues gaming with 16:9 compared to 16:10? My other 2 LCD's are 16:10...so that's all I'm used to with widescreen at this point.

The one in the middle with the 2ms response time. Someone else recommended that one to me and I still have my eyes on it.

2ms is great stuff, part of why I selected it, but really I haven't had any issues with ghosting in movies or gaming with a 5ms monitor, so to me it'll have to be more than 2ms as a feature for the extra bucks overbudget ya know?

How many of you do 16:9 gaming on PC? Any games have issues? I know widescreen 16:10 is pretty damn widely accepted. What can such a monitor as the 3 in the link in the OP do for lower resolutions? i.e. 1680x1050? Say if my GTX260 can't handle the higher resolutions in a newer game.

My friend ( whom I built a rig for which has a gtx 260 216 btw) plays at 1920x1080... no problem at all... Plus, he hated the black bars while watching Blu-Ray movies or playing his PS3.... and the GTX 260 handles 1920x1080 very well... The resolution one step down is 1600x900... He never tried it though since he never needed to step down, just lower AA once I think

If it does, I have a 30-day-refund policy...one phone call, return it, free shipping back and a refund. I figure it's worth a gamble...if it doesn't work out, I'll snag the Acer 23" for 189 shipped, but that deal was too good to pass up. I'll post about it next week when it shows up.

No dead pixels, box showed up like a brand new monitor that had never been opened, all acessories, monitor again has no dead pixels, looks amazing, gaming performance is still solid, I'm happy as can be and saved almost 80 bucks compared to this monitor new (currently 269.99 shipped). I feel this was a great way to go, I'm definately VERY happy with my purchase!

My sister has that Asus, great screen, crap speakers. I still recommend it. But if you can get it without speakers for less, then go for that.

I had crap speakers in my old 19" Acer widescreen, why anyone would use the built-in LCD speakers beats me...I never plan to even try the speakers in this one. I have my Logitech X-230 speakers and my Turtle Beach HPA2's for sound, which is plenty for my needs. Overall screen/image quality is very good though, I'm very impressed overall.

I have a 20, 22, 24, and 30 inch monitors. I wouldn't choose a 24 if I already had a 22.

Meh she wanted the 22", I gave my 19" to my dad, I wanted something about the same size with a little better resolution, going from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 isn't insane, but is noticable and a nicer experience. This new 24" is good stuff, good picture, but it takes up more desktop than I would've assumed. I actually debated going 22" also, but 23" seemed to be a good price-point with a little more resolution that I was willing to purchase, but that deal was too good to pass up on this Asus. I've had great luck 2 times in a row with 2 asus products via open box (the P5Q Deluxe back in august/sept iirc).

Overall I'm happy, she's happy, my dad can see the screen better (a lot easier on his eyes compared to his old 15" CRT! ), it's all good.

Wow, what a coincidence...

I have...err...had the same exact Acer 22" monitor and wanted to upgrade to a 23" 1080p unit also!

I ended up getting the LG M237WD. The major pluses that attracted me to it where two hdmi ports, component in, and a TV tuner! All for $300. Not bad for a HDTV/monitor hybrid. My budget was also about ~$200, and lucky was able to sell my Acer $125.

I just picked up a 1920x1080 samsung 21.5" and have decided that I prefer 16:9 over 16:10 for gaming. It just feels more natural as far as FOV goes. I was afraid that the dot pitch would be a bit on the small side compared to my 22" 1680x1050, but I actually find the finer pitch to be easier on my eyes for some reason.
