Hello fellow forum members. I have a strange PC case to share with you all.

It started when I loaded Dota 2 and bam! the game crashed with the PC frozen. After a hard reboot, Windows booted (obviously) into 'Safe Mode'. During the safe mode screen, I noticed the display/graphics were a bit corrupted with a green/cyan tinge on a few words. Also, during the Safe Mode loading screen the blue 'Welcome' screen was tearing. After the safe mode loaded, I just browsed around My Computer etc, and noticed the window panels that had blue shades or backgrounds were tearing as well. I doubted it could be the bad video card drivers, so I clean uninstalled the gfx drivers and rebooted windows. This time, Windows loaded into its usual Normal mode, however, the aforementioned screen tearing of the Welcome screen, window panels with blue color continued the tearing scenario. Then I loaded the prior version of the gfx drivers and rebooted windows. This time instead of loading windows into the normal mode, my computer froze again with no display on my monitor. The keyboard was unresponsive. Although I waited for a 10 mins thinking its taking its own to load. But I had to do a hard shutdown/reboot.

Summary:
> Windows loads into Safe mode with screen tearing.
> Windows refuses to load in Normal and a blank screen is seen.

System -
Windows 7 (SP1)
8 GB RAM (Dual channel)
AMD FX 8320
Sapphire (AMD) 270x 4GB
MSI 990 FXA

Steps tried -
> Rolled back drivers to 16.xx from 17.xx
> Opened the hood and re-dusted off the video card.
> Reseated the video in the second PCIe slot.
> Reseated/Swapped DIMMs.
> Powered my laptop and posted this issue on these forums.

What could be the possible cause? I'm experiencing this issue for the very first time. I have little knowledge of hardware as I've custom built my own desktops.

My PC was working fine till this afternoon. Any help/suggestion is appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Safe Mode doesn't load GFX drivers, so I doubt that's the problem. Have you done any overclocking? Can you output video through your MB and note any changes? Not sure if your MB supports it.

Its helpful if you fill out the system specs correctly. Pull the Gcard and use something else to see if it fixes it

Anything overclocked?

Almost certainly a dying video card if it's doing corrupt safe-mode graphics like that. Almost certainly, although there are a few other possibilities. Only way to know for sure is to test a replacement.

Open the case and make sure GPU fan is running. If it IS running, touch the heatsink to see whether it's actually doing its job. If it IS doing its job, GPU have had enough of you and calling it quits.

No OCing. Running on stock clocks.
No onboard video.

Fans are working. I suspect the card too.

What happens when you click "Start Windows normally"

No OC.
I see the hazy 'Starting Windows (7)' logo, then just before the 'Welcome' (all blue) screen is suppose to show, I see a blank screen on my monitor, the hdd activity led on the tower stops blinking, the keyboard becomes unresponsive and after 5-7 mins, I have to do a hard reboot.

Whats your power supply and harddrive/SSD, you need to go to the event viewer and get your memory.dmp files if any

PSU is Seasonic M12-II 620 W
HHD are the standard Sata 7200 rpm.

Will check for memory.dmp entries.

(With good baking experience :) )
Looks like Gpu failed to me
You might be able to run "Video memory stress" test to check / test the vram
1 Burn iso to CD or Flash drive
2 boot off cd
3 Run test

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/download/did/3260/

Direct iso link - https://sourceforge.net/projects/vmtce/files/

All Diagnostic software is also available on Hirens Boot CD 15.2

Seems to me as well.
Thanks a lot!
I'll try to run that.

Also, going to run some tests at my friend's place as well.

Do you have automatic restarts disabled in Windows? How old is the PSU (highly doubt that it's bad though)

PSU should not be an issue. I'm able to go to Safe Mode and be idle there for 10 mins +

Auto restarts? How to check that.
PSU is just a few months old.

Check for any critical/warnings in the Error Log. Something should show considering your PC is crashing after 5-7 minutes.

Trooper how did you remove the old drivers? If you did not use a utility to remove them, then this is the source of your issue's. Use DDU it can be down loaded from the front page link in TPU. Just deleting then installing new drivers will cause said issue...

True. But this one hurts the most!!

Check for any critical/warnings in the Error Log. Something should show considering your PC is crashing after 5-7 minutes.

It locks up/freezes when Windows goes into the 'Normal mode' boot. There's no lock up/freeze, if Windows boots into the "Safe mode". However, in the safe mode there's screen tearing/color corruption seen (irrespective of loading minimal drivers/services.)

I've attached the Camsnaps.

I'll still check the logs though.

Cool. Will go through these settings.

FYI - BlueScreenView is a handy little utility for looking at Windows minidump files. Just unzip the package and run the program.

Many thanks! Will use this during my diagnostic run this weekend.

Jagger, I used the AMD clean uninstall utility (as always). Thanks for the DDU suggestion. Below is the AMD uninstall utility's link -

Guys,
Did some tests at my friend's place. He too got a screen corruption and his system also would not boot further after POST. (screens attached).

So in my much dismay, I ordered an RX 480 (Gaming X).
