Long story short. They discovered some new unidentified GPU from AMD that has spec match up to VEGA with HBM2 in every way. I will let the chart itself does the speaking.

AMD's RTG is f*ucked at high end this year if this is true.

Wishful thinking. Don't forget the high cost of HBM2. AMD must be in a really awkward situation. On one hand the performance is pathetic, on the other hand the GPU plus HBM2 costs more than 1080/1080Ti. No wonder they have been hiding this failure all this time.

The best logic that AMD still would not release ANY performance related information on VEGA is it is a huge disappointment. They probably has been trying any possible way to make it look less pathetic. But software optimization can only do so much when the hardware design is not improved. The HBM2 version will probably be between 1070 and 1080 level performance.

So much for their "Poor Volta"

FuryX is 4096bit HBM1. VEGA is only 2048bit. So there is probably little to no change at the GPU design. NCU? More like GCN2017

It's memory bandwidth isn't really the issue, it's more they have taken a leaf out of Nv's playbook so the design is more fully utilised more often than not, idle resources have been AMD's problem of late.

We really don't know any facts yet. This is all speculation. I suspect Vega will be on par or slightly below a 1080, but I don't think AMD has made any claims to the contrary. Over time as drivers improve, it should come on line with a 1080. But I will be very surprised if it comes close to a 1080Ti or even surpasses a 1080.

But lets just wait and see.

Only 10% improvement compared to Fury and fury was released two years ago.
If this is true doesn't look good.
Here's what 4600 shaders do.

So 4000 of the rx480/580 shading units is exactly where you would end up.
That would mean that there is no significant performance increase compared to RX and HBM2 doesn't give any significant performance increase.
Only thing that leads me to believe that this article might be close to the truth is how secretive AMD being with VEGA.
Will find out soon enough.

It also means there was zero gains architecturally or in clockspeed.
