I have a pair of Dayton B652 bookshelf speakers, a Lepai amp, and a 12" Dayton subwoofer that I would like to power for a tailgate. Should I buy a specific battery, or purchase a power inverter to use with my car? Cost effective strategies would be key.

If you go the power inverter way I would leave your car running so you don't kill your battery. I have used an inverter to power several items off my truck. I used one that connects directly to the battery though as trying it through a standard cig lighter port didn't work. Make sure the inverter has the watts to handle all the items you want to power off it.
