Or you could just use VeraCrypt for free.
No, you can't. Not in every scenario.
Apart from the obvious issue of certification mentioned by @VSG, there's also the matter of usability.
Encrypted USB drives are all-in-one solutions. VeraCrypt (and other software of this kind) has to be installed on the PC.

Also USB drives are very easy to use. BitLocker and FileVault are as well.
VeraCrypt is overcomplicated and very intimidating for casual PC users. It lacks a simple mode for normal humans.
It's good software underneath, but it seriously lacks UX polishing like most free applications...

So, those external 860 evo and M.2 in enclosure, You just remove them from enclosure and use directly instead and access all data bypassing security?

I have used the DataTraveler for years - the best thing, is no use of software, to access the drive, handy if you are working
with computers that are restricted on software....
Very reliable - but as pointed out in the test, not the fastest, but that is not the main priority, in my case.

I personally prefer the K300 from DataLocker. It uses Micro SSD so 4 times faster than Nand Flash. It has an OLED screen that offers a great user experience and allows to access a menu to set the features, without having to read a manual or guess what the blinking LEDs mean. It also offers true Alpha Numerical password while the DT2000 and equivalent offer only a numerical password. Max capacity is 256GB, I believe. And it can be optionally centrally managed by SafeConsole. on the K300, keys are spaced enough to allow fingers to push correctly on the key without mistakes. might be a detailed but I have noticed it when I used to use the DT2000.

This is just a question that came to me as I was reading this thread. Could you use Windows Bitlocker to encrypt a USB drive?

Of course. But you need Windows Pro or higher to mount the encrypted drive.
