270X will last 2 years?

Will the 270X last me a good 2 years of time on High settings @ 1080p. I don't want ULTRA or VERY HIGH Settings, i just want them to be HIGH. Most of the benchamarks show FPS with MAX/ultra quality so they are of no use to me and hence i am confused

The 270X has already been on the market, essentially, a year and a half and it was a mid-range card a year and a half ago as well.

I don't think it has the horsepower to last 2 years @ High settings. I think you'll have to start dropping down to medium settings to maintain playable framerates.

So since the 280X was a high end card 1.5 years ago aswell , you mean even it won't last for 2 years? Basically any card i buy today are all rebranded cards so i will never be able to get it to last 2 years @high ?

Your best bet will be either getting a 290X or wait for the 290.

You keep making threads on pretty much the same subject (GPUs), just buy a card and enjoy it.

And the fact is after 2 years most cards will be nearing the end of their life-time already.
Some will have already died.

My 7970 will be 2y in January but still runs all games on max without any slideshows or whatever.If u buy high-end card it lasts for for couple years,i change cards about once in 2 years,but then its only needed when u want to get max out of game.

But i don't want max settings, i just want high settings with probably medium AA

It has a better chance than the 270X, the 760 is about 15% faster.

Dude, no one can really tell you how long a piece of hardware will last, as no one really knows how games will turn out in 2 years times, except for maybe crazyeyes.

Like I said, buy the best card you can from either AMD or NVidia currently.

The 7850/70 was a leap forward from the previous two generations. It should be fine in 2 years for 1080p, especially since cross console development would probably make the popular games run with less demanding hardware anyway.

IF graphic prowess is an issue, things like AMD's new Raptr thingie will make sure that games are updated with acceptable settings for your hardware, making the issue of "what settings do I use" rather moot from now until Raptr dies. You simply click a button in Raptr, and it changes your settings to ones most appropriate for your hardware.

NVidia offers the same thing.

Now, given that the new consoles don't have a lot of GPU power, really, I think the 270X will have some legs in it for quite some time yet. We WILL be playing console ports still too... the new consoles won't really change that.

So, the real question is..."Is the R8 270X enough for 1080p in most titles, with decent settings?

Sounds to me like he wants High settings, and doesn't want to have to drop them.

If you want something to last longer buy the one with highest performance, but even with that no one can tell you how will it perform 1 year after.
My 5870 can run Metro:LL like a boss, I did pay more but I can still play almost all the games on highest settings.
So maybe wait for AMD to release the R9 290 it might be cheap or cause some other cards to drop in price.

My sister in the US ordered the Evga 760 SC with ACX Cooler for 270$ [with shipping] + 2 free games + 10$ rebate card.
She will also be ordering Creative Fatal1ty gaming headset for 30$ on amazon

Hope i am happy with it, since the 270X costs around 10$ more in India [290$] than the 760 SC in US [270$]

Also now i can play my Batman Asylum+City+Borderlands 2 with PhysX :love:

I'll mostly be upgrading in 1.5-2 years, please tell me it was a wise decision

Edit: Games i am going to play: Full Batman Series , Full AC Series , Full Hitman series , GTA4 , Skyrim Series , Full Splinter Cell Series , Far Cry 3 , BORDERLANDS 2 [Currently playing it a lowest settings at 720P

, still enjoyable

] Tomb Raider and my 2 loved games: DotA2 + CS:GO

I would opt for the 280X at the least but i have to wait till march anyways so i can go for the 290X for example.

And if games to come are any thing like thee last 2 years i been able to play max settings with either 0xAA or 2xAA with the odd game like Assassin's Creed series 4xAA ( maybe higher i do not know as over 4xAA is pointless) and with the highest AF setting the game will allow..

OOh nooo, Raptr really sorry i found them to be un except-able as i like the quality over AA.
