You look for an alternative always in case something happens. It is better to have plan B especially in the era of chip shortage.

I think amd uses skynix and as well samsung, but maybe I'm wrong. If micron is backup then it will come handy in future, maybe. If amd plans to use micron for supply increase then that will be good.

Simple conclusion might be, AMD had suppliers but they didn't know how the sales will go. Since it kicked off not as bad they want to increase the capacity. I think it is a good move. Also that means the production will ramp up for the graphics cards? Damn I sure hope so.

Right, Samsung has had an exclusive on 16Gbps memory for the last two years (since the 2080 Super),

Of course, Micron has been shipping just as many units of GDDR6X chips. (at half the density, but even higher speeds)
